The 3rd Annual (Not Really) Constant Reader Awards

For the past little while I kept thinking we should revive our Constant Reader Awards, which were held twice before, and were very popular with the general membership, I think. It was a fun exercise. The first CRAs were held in 2008-09, starting in November 2008, and finishing up in March 2009. The second edition started exactly a year later, in March 2010, and ended in July 2010. So, to truly make this an annual event, we'd have to begin sometime this month, otherwise 2011 goes by the wayside. Should we go ahead with our 3rd CRAs, there would be a slight change to the roster of books. If you'll remember, this had happened before, where Nightmares in the Sky was not carried over from the first to the second Awards. This time, after doing some mental juggling, I think it would be best to remove all non-fiction books but one, On Writing. This will allow us to keep the 12 five-book brackets as before. Here are the final overall standings for our 1st and 2nd Constant Reader Awards. Note that the number following the title is that book's Final Average Score (FAS). This is the score that's calculated based on how the given book was ranked and rated in the preceding rounds. A book can earn up to 8.9 points, which is the maximum, and would then be 100%, therefore the percentage is also used to give a clearer picture of how well a book scored overall. The voting is divided into three rounds, with 60 books being voted on. In Round 1 the maximum score a book can earn is 5. The top 30 books then move onto Round 2, where they can earn an additional maximum 3 points. After that, the top 10 go on to Round 3 for an additional maximum 0.9 points. So, 8.9 altogether is the max.
