I think the anger and discontent is justified, albeit misdirected. The people with the signs attacking "corporate socialism" were on target, IMO.

Here are links to some photo essays I've done on the subject:

This is an interesting video: http://front.moveon.org/this%2Dpower...0192-_8N%3D8dx

Elizabeth Warren, the woman talking in most of the video knows her shit. She is an
attorney, law professor, and United States Senate candidate. She served as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Obama. She is also the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where she has taught contract law, bankruptcy, and commercial law. In the wake of the 2008-2011 financial crisis, she became the chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel created to oversee the U.S. banking bailout (formally known as the Troubled Assets Relief Program).
There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.

Wall Street is not to blame. While I'm not condoning what they did the ultimate blame falls to Govt. for revising regulatory restrictions put in place to avoid this very situation. You can't put a shark in a bowl full of fish and not expect it to eat. That's capitalism. We're now paying for regulatory revisions put in place by the Clinton Administration, not revised by the Bush Admin.

Of course it started with Clinton's presidency, right at the end, when Glass-Steagall was repealed, but both chambers of Congress has Republican majority. Clinton signed the repeal into legislation(and started the deregulation, but the majority of it came after he was out of office), but they would have gotten it through anyway, even if he tried to veto it, because they would have refused to vote on anything he wanted to get through, much as the Republicans are doing to Obama with anything he tried to pass now. Blaming the president in power at the time is generally a red herring to draw attention to the congress majority at the time, which is generally who is to blame for the passing or lack of passing of legislation. There is supposed to be a balance, but it doesn't really work, because Congress will always refuse to vote on stuff the President wants to get done until they get what they want and Congress is owned and controlled by corporate lobbyists.

The United States was certainly to blame, but you can't say that Wall Street isn't just because someone shares the blame. When a dog that is actually vicious bites a kid, we don't say "Well, that kid shouldn't have stood so close to the cage. Or, it is the owner's fault, we will let the dog live." The dog also shares the blame. Wall Street wasn't a shark in bloody water, it was a pit bull allowed to bit people with no punishment from the government. The government did some bad things to allow it, but something still needs to be done about the dog before it bites someone again.

Hey, I was blaming "The Government" not a political party, just for the record. otherwise I generally agree with all you say. Ultimately, each party serves their own best interests just in different guises. Nancy Pelosi's husband has a significant interest in Del Monte and Cheney, Halliburton. We need Govt to look out for the interests of the "Public" and ultimately act responsibly.

Here's some more ridiculous police behavior from Occupy Oakland on the other coast:

Now now the police were clearly just protecting these good people from the consequences of exercising their free speech and all. Well... That and protecting us from hearing it or getting the twisted idea that we should exercise such rights. These civil servants behaved heroically.

They will let you know if you have an opinion different from their own. Do not forget your freedom of limited speech nor your right to peacefully assemble when and where you are told you may. Feel free to exercise your right to stand up to your government within the confines of your own heart and mind. Ah, freedom! How grand it is.
