I'm up around Allentown, PA -- only Flood Watches so far for Saturday night and Sunday. Just came back from grocery shopping...what a zoo! Better to be prepared than not I suppose...

Is Allentown prone to flooding? If not it looks like it's far enough inland that this shouldn't be a huge deal. As a disclaimer I live in Florida and have been through six hurricanes and I didn't leave for any of them. As a matter of fact before I was married with kids we would have hurricane parties and get completely wasted and party though them.

I'm in Baltimore and the weathermen are freaking out about the hurricane. They've evacuated Ocean City (on the coast) but we're about 2 hours in the opposite direction, so I don't think we'll get the impact of the flooding. Rain and wind? Probably.

I grew up in South Florida and lived through my share of bad storms, especially David and Andrew. NYC is 90 miles away, and if the eye is near there, we are going to get a ton of rain from the feeder bands. The Governor has declared a State of Emergency so the state can begin making preparations. We'll probably get 40-50 MPH winds and a lot of heavy rain. Hopefully not a lot of flooding.

I've lived in Pensacola and now have lived in Central Florida for about 12 years. I worked in South Florida on and off (I was in construction management) for the last 10 so where in FL did you grow up ?

I spent about 17 years in the Pompano Beach area and 2 in Clearwater. I also went to FSU, so that was 5 years in Tallahassee.

Cool. I don't know Pompano Beach that well but I'm not to far from Clearwater. We built a city library in Clearwater in (I think) 2003 so I spent quite a bit of time there.

I'm in Connecticut a few miles from the shore. People are FREAKING OUT. My dad works for the power company up here and he said they're all freaking out too. I hope it's not really bad, it sounds as though it's weakening on it's way up here. What's really annoying is I have to work tonight and probably won't get out until like 12. If it starts to get really bad I'm going home. Eff that.
I had my infatuations, but we both know in our hearts who is the sole love of my short, bright life.

Yeah it looks like it has weakened and was downgraded to a Category 1, but it's still slow and huge, which is the real bitch.

    Come on, Irene!

Raining off and on in Alexandria, VA. The heavy stuff will come after 6pm and stay for about 12 hours. I expect we'll lose power in about six hours. First post and it's a weather forecast, lol!

Looks like Category 1 for NYC. Won't be a picnic, but NY should be OK even if messy. I lived through "Gloria" on L.I. and that was a full 3 or 4 if, I recall. We were fairly good with that storm, but the trees sure took a beating!!!

Plays hell with the power and basement flooding though!!

How's everyone doing? Looks like we made it, even though there was no power for 8 hours. The pump kept going on backup, so no flooding. Sounds like it might not have been as bad as had been feared, but still some damage, flooding, and even deaths, sadly.

Coastal NH here and we had wind and rain, a few trees down in town and one around the corner from work, but all in all, not too bad. Power flickered a few times, but didn't go out. Phew! Got to cook my boiled dinner...which I am now eating leftovers for lunch! YUM!
