Bale!!! I loved him in the machinist. I also loved him in The Prestige, and equilbrium
I know he has had some turkeys of films (although i think that was more about the film than the acting, one film springs to mind is Reign of Fire)
But I do think he is an outstanding actor that gets a bad press, I am not even sure why anymore.
Oh please, please, please let it be Bale!

The current result is making me sad panda.
I like Bale, but Hoffman has a better filmography at this point. He's one of my favorite actors.
He was great in The Savages. I loved him in one of my favorite films, The Big Lebowski. He was also great in the quirky Happiness. He also turns in solid supporting performances in two of my favs, The Talented Mr. Ripley and The 25th Hour.
I know Bale is Batman, but I gotta go with Hoffman.

(And this has nothing to do with the fact that I hated Bale's accent in The Prestige, or that he occasionally sounded like he had a bad case of tonsilitus in The Dark Knight, although he does seems to have problems with his voice in general!

Have you seen him in The Machinist ? He gives a very powerful and disturbing tour de force of a performance. He becomes more and more untethered from the real world as the film progresses, and his descent to madness is highly believable. Check it out if you ever get the chance.
I haven't seen it, but I must say that with the number of films I've seen of both, Hoffman has regularly impressed me more, even when you take into account the fact that so far I have only seen him in supporting roles. Must change that asap, I think.
But I do like insane films, so I'll check out the Machinist when I can.

I'm fairly positive you'll love it. It's very ... shall we say, down-the-rabbit-hole ish ?
Haha! Well, considering my sig, I suppose I would enjoy it! Any film that can get that across well, I'm usually interested in. (One reason I was dissapointed with Shutter Island was that it never once felt truly insane, especially with such a predictable ending. I'm guessing The Machinist is better?)

You have Netflix, right? It's on Instant Streaming if you're interested. I haven't gotten to it yet, but have read very mixed reviews. It looks a little too much like the stereotypical reality vs. insanity deal. But that's just my opinion based on what I've read and seen in the trailer.

Yeah, it can be very by the numbers within the context of that genre at times, but it's still a very enjoyable film nonetheless. Bale's performance is what makes the film.
Nope, no Netflix. Only US service, atm. There's lovefilm, that has streaming. I'll probably get round to getting that sorted out soon. Btw, if Life on Mars is on instant streaming, start watching it now (unless it's the abc version, in which case, ignore)!

I think I saw an advert for it on the Virgin media network - but I may be wrong. If it was its only very very recent and only available on virgin
2012, that's when it's coming to the UK. Atm, nothing yet.
