Brian, this has been discussed before (I think its in the slipcases thread) One of the books (Roadwork from memory) is slightly taller so should be the one you use for the height dimension. Anybody have direct (and working!) contact info for artist Alex McVey. Long story made short.....I loaned him $$ 2 years ago as he was struggling, with his promise to repay me within a year. He was to send me his personal Lettered Blockade Billy as collateral....Never sent the Billy...I lost contact with him (all tries went unanswered) for almost a year....then I tried via Facebook but his responses to my messages is growing steadily farther apart.....repayment terms have "morphed" away from $$ to he is doing a painting for me of my choosing AND I got him to agree to do a second painting he would donate to Haven Foundation for auction. My painting was supposed to be completed last Fall (was not) and I have sent like 3 Facebook messages that have gone unanswered. Last I heard from him via Facebook was mid-January and he was supposed to finish art work the next week (NOT). I once had an email address and a phone number but neither have worked. I'm at the point of writing it all off in my mind and I am more MAD that a supposed kick-ass art piece for Haven has not materialized.
I hate "outing" him like this publicly, but I've run out of patience after 2 years.

I know of 2 books which King stated that this was has 1st ever signature. One was on a Carrie proof owned by a member here, and the other was on a Carrie HB signed to college friends. I don't believe any of that. I think his 1st signature was to his Mother.

Good info! I think most all of those early signatures are inscribed to family and friends though. I've seen one that is a month or two before book release, but every time it is inscribed to someone. Not sure if these count since they aren't in copies of Carrie, but if you are looking for early signatures/inscriptions these in Moth and Onan definitely precede any of the 1974's. Inscribed to Bill Thompson.

For what it is worth, i got a response from him within 2 hours yesterday when i used the one posted on his website, asking about some of his pricing.

Sorry about that, tardiness seems to be typical for him at the best of times from what I've heard. I'm still waiting (probably futile) for an Oy wallhanger that he found that I bought in August/September when I sent him another book for the Haven Fund. He also recently moved his studio to the Dallas area, around 100 miles from where he used to live. Since I live only 20 minutes away from where he is now, I've even offered to come over to his studio or area and just pick things up, but still no connection. Here is hoping that at SOME point in McVST (McVey Standard Time) that he completes the projects that he commits to.I emailed him again on behalf of all of us. I'll check the website address vs what I have to be safe. Oh, I agree. I've dealt with delays and so forth on many occasions. However, he is reaching the point of no return. LOL I know he has experienced an upheaval (or two) to his world and I don't want to compound that in any way. Just reaching out is all. From David's description, the transaction started as a material cash loan, the borrower failed to provide promised collateral, failed to pay as agreed, renegotiated the repayment terms into goods instead of cash, failed to meet those revised terms, and then became non-communicative. Yes.
Both were/are very susceptible to chipping as well as fading with even the slightest direct sunlight.
