Good deed of the day: I messaged a seller selling a mint copy of a 'first edition' Carrie and asked what's the price on the DJ. He said there wasn't any. I politely told him that means it's not a true first edition and what he has is a book club. He changed the listing ASAP and some naive fool will now to get to keep his money.

Conflicted on what book to have signed in VA. The Shining vs. The Gunslinger (have/on the way S/L DT 3, 5-7). Reason DTI is because I don't see me ever paying for a DTI S/L, but would like all 7 signed in some way. Course that means I gotta get a DTI 1st, not a huge concern. Input would be nice.
    Wish List:
Any of the following flatsigned or inscribed-
It, Shining, Salem’s Lot, Mr. Mercedes, The Stand
    Brother ARC, Seed ARC

Hey does any one have any advice on how to get my DT books to fit in the Grant slipcases that just arrived today?
I have tried to get IV/V & VI/VII in to their respective cases, but they are too tight and I don't want to risk rubbing the edges of the slipcases etc.

I am trying with the brodard covers still on the dustjackets, and so if anyone else has these slipcases, did you have to remove any protective covers first? Should I try "stretching" the slipcase?

I got 1-3 in to that case. (actually didn't try putting my second edition in as it was very tight and I was scared of damaging the dustjacket , so put my 3rd printing in which I guess is better cos that was the edition designed for the slip case right?)

    Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Can't help you James, as I don't have the Grant slipcases myself (or any DT slipcase, for that matter) but I've read that many people have had problems with tight slipcases at one time or another due to the Brodart sleeves (not necessarily DT slipcases).

    James,

I have my First Edition IV and Artist Edition V in one Grant case, and the Artist Edition of VI and VII in another. All 4 books have Brodart covers, and they fit fine. I don't remember doing anything special to make them fit.

I have all three slipcases and all the books covered and they fit fine. A little snug for sure but there's no problem fitting them.

I don't have it but I'd be happy to make up some stuff that sounds plausible.

Same here though, as I recall it was easier to get the 2nd book in if you laid the case on its side rather than vertical. Especially with the covers making them snug.

    Hope that helps

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try stretching the cases a little tonight and try again.

Obviously the cases are designed for the books and so there shouldn't be any issue, I just don't want to risk damage to the dustjackets as I'm sure everyone here gets lol

If I give up, anyone looking for a complete set?

I had to stretch every slipcase I ever bought to make a book fit. sometimes the slipcases get "compacted" during shipping.

Yeah, I've noticed that sometimes you get that "inward bowing". Probably from S/H as Pixie says.

I just bought "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly: Eight Secondary Characters from the Dark Tower Series" on ebay. I just received it and noticed that the copyright page says "Signed Limited Edition Chapbook", but my copy isn't signed. Is there a story behind this? I only paid $2 and didn't even think it was signed, so it doesn't really matter; just curious.

Mine is signed and numbered on the first page of the book on a typical limitation page. I didn't know there were any unsigned ones.

The limitation page trims a little less than the cover and next page so if you "thumb" through the book you might miss it. I'd check again because you might have missed it because it is a little smaller.

King didn't do any public (mass) signings. One could take a copy to the King event in Lexington, but there are more rare/valuable books (to most people) that will likely be taken there. The book was released in January 2006, and King was presumptively in Florida at the time. He has been known to drop in to the local Barnes & Noble and sign his books on display. That may be where the most copies were ever signed at once.

    EDIT:
Also, in January of 2006, thedarktower.com/org had yet to be launched so there was no "Pride & Joy thread etc. to see copies that Collector's had obtained.
