ABSOLUTELY CORRECT I took these pictures in summer of 2012 while staying at the Hotel Minneapolis.
I found it interesting and annoying at the same time. Had to take a few pictures for future use.
Good job on that research Bev. I will keep Google image search in mind.

That may be a bit "stupid", but that's something that I do on ebay.
Trying to bid uneven numbers, because people tend to bid something ending by 5 or in tens... so I may bid something ending by 7 for instance.
Dont know if this is really useful, but... I usually do it.

I remember a french collector that told me that a friend of is, collecting books (not King) was always putting the same bid. Always, and something like 1000€.
That way he was almost certain to get the books when it was of low value, and if it was going quite high, well... that rarely happened but he was willing to take the punt.

Does anyone else has a "strategy" that they dont mind sharing?

Neat idea... I always wait till the last 5 seconds and bid another $10 if I REALLY want the item... sometimes that is hard to do like someone mentioned before... good topic though!

I sometimes also use some snipe tool... but that's only useful if you have a higher bid and/or you're bidding against someone that is physically bidding. I usually do both : a small bid (so that I then get an email remainder before the auction ends, but also write the deadline down) + then use a snipe to increase my auction.

Here is my strategy. No risk for me t o share it because I dont really buy much or expensive items :p

I have tracked a number of Carrie 1st/1st's recently before I purchased mine and based on the condition of that one and it looking like an ex-library book, I would put it around $350-$400.
As John say's you need to post a picture of the 'salem's Lot front flap to identify whether it is a 2nd or 3rd variant. (unlikely to be a 1st!). if a second I would put it around the same as the Carrie maybe a little less, If a 3rd then $300.

I would pay no more than $200 for that copy of Carrie - my own copy is ex-library but looks as new (except for a light stain on the lower spine of the DJ and some glue residue on the front endpaper) and I got it for $325.

No idea when you got yours Tippy, but from experience I can tell you that available copies of any of the 'first 4' are few and far between. (Less so on the Shining it seems). A Nr Fine on any of them will be upwards of $800 right now and other 'good' copies are increasingly hard to find. If you can show me a similar book for $200 I (and I suspect many others here without one) would buy it in a heartbeat.

That copy of Carrie is an ex-library in poor condition. I would say it's only worth $200-$250.
