Lust envy greed..... and WOW those are some pretty cool items
Any new members care to add their top 10?
I don't believe I have ever contributed to this thread...so here are my favorites in my collection...I like the books I was able to get signed in person...
Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Gunslinger (1st, 2nd and 3rd editions) and last but not least is The New Leiutenants Rap.
I never thought I would get one of those, its not one of the original signed ones but I was able to get an unsigned copy for a great price and then get it signed at the George Mason event !
I also like the loose signature sheets from Six Stories and The Stand that I was able to get.
One more would be my 3rd state Salem's Lot, not an easy book to find but a member here gave me a great deal on one !
This is pretty easy for me. My top 3 would be:
1. Cujo Taylor Guitar
2. Cycle of the Werewolf S/L below 100 with original Wrightson drawing of the werewolf
3. Original Evil Dead one sheet signed by the entire cast and Stephen King
1. "Brave Men," signed by Ernie Pyle
2. "Dispatches," personal copy owned and heavily annotated by Gustav Hasford, screenwriter for "Full Metal Jacket."
3. Original, personalized, and 100 pecent unique art signed by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fame.
4. My own pre-proof looseleaf proofreader's copy of Dark Tower VII.
5. Personally inscribed to me books by Obama and Hillary Clinton (and Bill too, but he didn't put my name...and I guess Rudy Giuliani)
6. Signed "Full Dark/No Stars" and "Best American Short Stories," which are the two SK book actually signed in front of me, if not inscribed to me...
7. Signed and pretty creatively inscribed Dan Brown books - "DaVinci," "Angels" "Deception Pt." and one other.
8. Dark Tower II s/l "Author's Copy," bought for just $56 and the s/l book that truly got me into SK collecting.
9. Signed "Modern Masters of Horror," a mundane anthology, but the only one I've ever seen signed by SK.
10. Pat Conroy signed 1st editions, my favorite author of all time.
Seeing that list actually impresses me....some neat items there...haha.
Rahfa, just curiious--how do you store the pre-proof copy?
I have a few of these, but I have just been putting them in archival plastic bags, which is okay, I guess, but I wonder if there's a better way.
John
It's basically a stack of looseleaf papers - so 600 pages (or whatever) that I just keep in the box Robert gave it to me in. I couldn't put it in a bag if I wanted to - at least not one bag for the whole thing.
My Top Collectibles currently in my possession:
1. Deluxe 'Salem's Lot / Stephen King Interviews
2. Whelan Remarqued / Inscribed "To Tim" 1st Edition Gunslinger
3. Proof Copy of Six Stories
4. Remarqued AE and S/L of TWTTK
5. Remarqued S/L of The Green Mile
Probably in that order.....
Where did you get that print of the Christine cover art? I seriously want that one!
And those Carrie signatures were done on my first birthday, can't believe I missed that one.
Ha! Good a time as any to update this list as my collection has changed a bit!
1) Signed "The Plant" 1-3
2) Signed New Lieutenant's Rap
3) Inscribed/Dated 1st Edition of Carrie "To Tim Best Wishes"
4) S/L Lettered/Remarqued Green Mile
5) S/L Numbered/Remarqued Green Mile
6) Whelan Remarqued / Inscribed "To Tim" 1st Edition Gunslinger
Firstly, some wonderful items out there. Topped by the first state Salem's Lot no doubt (was that from David Aronovitch by any chance?).
Slightly off-topic, not a top ten list of SK books, but a top five list of books I've encountered over the last year or so.
1. A pristine collection of Philip K. Dick books. The seller inherited the books from a guy who bought three of each of PKD's novels when they were first published in hardback in the UK because he wanted a book collection. He wasn't a fan of PKD but had just heard good things. The books were all fine and the rarest of titles. I spent a pretty penny that day.
2. The Signed Frankenstein...signed by Shelley to Lord Byron. That was a book to behold!
3. A signed copy of Thea Von Harbou's first book, inscribed to her hairdresser. This was actually my copy and for long enough the only signed Von Harbou on the market.
4. A complete set of Terry Pratchett proofs - just nice to see together.
5. Manuscripts for David Gemmell's first two books that remain unpublished.

I'm just curious, but do you maintain a collection at all nowadays? (I'm not talking about reading copies but special/collectible books). Or are you exclusively buying to sell? I know that David @ Betts always says 'you can't fall in love with the inventory' but I assume that virtually every bookseller cherry-picks from his stash at times. Confess!
Nope, none at all now. Maybe when my business is where I want it to be in terms of stock I can start taking pieces out, but with a wife and two kids to support I plough everything back in. My Murakami books are my last books from my collection to become stock (which will be my first catalogue). Surprisingly, my SK collection was the first to go. I figured it would be fairly easy to put back together if I so wished...it really hasn't turned out like that...not by a long shot...half the books I haven't had back in even as stock...

my personal top X collectibles:
1 Salem's Lot Gift Edition in the traycase from The Collector signed, in my presence, by both Stephen King and Jerry Uelsmann on the title page. I really need to get a set of Jerry's photos to go with this. It is #1 because it is one of my two favorite Books and a really cool edition.
2 Forrest J Ackerman's copy of Different Seasons signed in the month of publication, my favorite king collection and my only association copy.
3 The Shining First edition inscribed to me in and in an awesome Doslo art case. This is my favorite book and along with the next book on the list were my first 2 books I was able to get signed by King back when he accepted books in the mail for signing.
4 The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger First inscribed to me by both Author and artist
5 Salem's Lot First Second State jacket in another awesome Doslo art case. Inscribed to me at my first King book signing.
6 The Stand Signed Limited a stunning production
7 Salem's Lot Signed Limited # another stunning production
8 Carrie First an immaculate copy signed at the 1980 World Fantasy Convention
9 Night Shift First signed
10 Firestarter Signed Limited also signed by Whelan, My favorite dust jacket.
Ken
Just for the record people, when I created the thread I called it 'Top X', meaning 'Top Whatever', not 'Top Roman Numeral Ten' (I have seen lots of Top 10s, which is perfectly fine of course... but I don't want people having to struggle to come up with ten items - or having to restrain themselves when they want to make a Top 50)
Good to see some action in this thread!! And you guys have the most amazing books!
I second Richard's request.
Need to take some photos. Then I guess upload them to photobucket or something like it in order to upload to the site? I will work on it this week, see what I can do.
Very hard question.... My personal tops are;
1. Carrie, 2. Gunslinger, 3. Moth (shown in link below)
http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...l=1#post699971
4. Night shift, 5. WTTKH, 6. The Stand (shown in link below)
