Question for anyone that watches the Game of Thrones television show and also reads the books. Didn't want to even step foot inside the specific threads lest I get spoiled. Anyway, I'm enjoying the first book, but at the same time, nothing is happening that I haven't already seen in the show. My question is ... can I just skip to the current television season's book and still be fine?
FUCK!!! I am reading Mr.Mercedes, and it started so well! Now it's all in the present tense - and nothing can be more disgusting than this. Can someone tell me if it is going to be this way forever? I can't leaf forward because I'm reading on Kindle.
Ask not what bears can do for you, but what you can do for bears. (razz)
When one is in agreement with bears one is always correct. (mae)
bears are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's wrong with present tense?
Bears: while I can offer no insight to your question, say sorry, you should take some solace in the fact there is hope for me coming around to liking WotC. DotT did not hit me nearly as hard (still loved it tho), and WL is rocking my world right now. It's easily my favorite of the first three books this cycle. Turns out my taste buds have changed in the past decade or so haha. I hope MM reverts back to a form that is pleasing to you.
Everything. It is not a way to tell a story. It sounds unnatural and can only be good for some, I don't know, flashbacks or other inserted pieces - and even then reads like it's an assignment of a Creative Writing student. The only exception so far is Black House - which would be a million times better if it was told in the past tense, but is good enough even as it is, although I have to struggle through all those -s at the end of words instead of -ed.
there's hope! there's hope!!!

As good as Game of Thrones is-I happen to think it's a very well-crafted TV series but am not as enamored of it as most people-it pales in comparison to the books in A Song of Ice and Fire. As frustrating as certain aspects of the novels can be, the television adaptation has nothing on it. Nothing.
^This. Absolutely.
A Song of Ice and Fire is too long and complex to translate from print to screen in any complete way.
Cool. Thanks.

The Houston Astros cheated Major League Baseball from 2017-18!!!! Is that how we teach our kids to play the game now?????
LOL, which of the quoted comments did it refer to? To the using of the present tense, or to my hope that Stebbins will like my favorite book?
