Spotlight - 6 of 6 beers using the RFSRS. Even though I am from the N.E. and had "first hand" knowledge, so to speak, it was interesting and appalling to view the back story on how it was broke. Great acting/performances from the entire cast.
Spotlight is a great film. The thing that hits home is that you don't have to be from New England to feel the impact of this film. That's why it's scary. This was happening all around the country - all around the world. We are from New England, so we probably remember it more than other parts of the country, but it was happening everywhere. Insane.
Brilliant thriller with only a hole or two to keep it from perfection.
Intrigues you as the credits start, then grabs you before the opening credits finish.
Just enough clues and red herrings to make you believe you know what's to happen, then you are likely mistaken.
John Goodman (I don't believe the heavy breathing is made up as he is morbidly obese) gives a creepy wonderful performance.
5/6 beers on the RFSRS
Based on the trailer, I'm really, really looking forward to this movie, and not just because of the Cloverfield tie-in. The trailer just looked claustrophobic and tense as hell with a tight character focus. I'm really hoping that it remains as fixed as it does on mostly one setting. Plus, John Goodman is always great, and while her movies have been hit-and-miss, gotta admit, I'm quite the fan of Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It isn't out over here for another week, but I'm glad to hear it's great.
Never be cruel and never be cowardly. And if you ever are, always make amends.
You are a walking talking Doctor Who encyclopedia to me. - Melike
I just found it strange that he would do a movie with these themes and/or events. I mean you wouldn't find Tom Cruise in a movie where he
Spoiler:
fucks a man who has recently been forcibly turned into a woman for potentially raping his daughter.
lol
It is an extreme role but I wasn't surprised Antonio did it. He has always been a very bold actor. Here is a clip from his very first movie also by Almodóvar. He's never been afraid to play with sexuality in his roles. Law of Desire (also by Almodóvar), Philadelphia and Interview with the Vampire come to mind. The boldness of some of his past performances made him perfect for that role in my opinion and I couldn't imagine another acting being able to pull off that performance as believably as Antonio did.
B) That wasn't so bad. But The Skin I Live In had a very, very, dark plotline. That's like watching A Serbian Film or Human Centipede: Part Eighteen and at minute thirty-eight, out pops Brad Pitt.
I agree that it is probably his darkest role but you said you were surprised he did it but I'm not. I didn't post that clip as an example of "bad" but rather to show that he started out his career in a bold way and continues to take chances. I hope to see more roles like The Skin I Live In from him in the future because he could be used in such interesting ways.
I can totally see Brad as the "head" of the centipede.
I think by the time they hit part 18, they might have to start using other animals alongside Humans.
The last movie I saw at the theaters was Carol (discount second-run theater) and I liked it a whole lot. Beautiful, heartbreaking, delicate, bittersweet and ultimately uplifting. A very nicely done film.

You hit the nail on the head. I did not intend to make it seem regional. It was just that the impact was there first and perhaps a little more reverberating given the population densities and such. Boston, New York, etc. are just such high Catholic concentrated areas. The Church permeates society richly in the area. Not to say that it didn't affect other regions. Sorry, if I failed to convey that sentiment.

No. You didn't fail. I was just reiterating how global the crisis was.
I'm trying to find time to see it. I'm glad people are saying it doesn't have a whole lot to do with Cloverfield. I actually wasn't a fan of that film. That said, I have to go back and watch it again. I had a very poor theater experience that night (kids being jerks) and I feel that played a part.
Some say that they are related but I really don't feel that way about them. Seeing the film Cloverfield is not necessary in order to enjoy 10 Cloverfield Lane. John Goodman is amazing!
I like 10 Cloverfield Lane better than Cloverfield. I did see Cloverfield on a tiny computer monitor for the first time so that may have something to do with how I enjoyed it. Perhaps on a movie screen I would like it better.
You should totally give Cloverfield another chance. I love that movie. Watched it too many times. Crazy they made it with such a small budget (they actually had money left so they added an extra scare).
Abrams said 10 Cloverfield Lane is a blood relative to Cloverfield
I watched The Room which truly is the worst movie ever made. Its so awful you can't help but cackle through it. When the only redeeming factor in a movie its audacious crapiness, you know you made a terrible movie. "I think if more people loved each other the world would be a better place to live. But you know what they say, love is blind"

Carol was good but Far From Heaven was still better. What kind of name is Harge?

I swear to god I asked that same question of the person I went with. So weird. Yes, Far From Heaven is better but Carol is still darn good.

The Room is one of the bottom five worst films I've ever seen. I love the guys at Rifftrax and they did two versions (Riffs) of The Room. I couldn't even make it through the first one. The second one was a live event. That was the first time I saw it all the way through and still with the jokes it was just horrible.
NOT the 2015 movie (The Intruders) with Miranda Cosgrove and Donal Logue and NOT the 2011 movie with Clive Owen.
Don't read the synopsis, don't read any reviews, don't see the trailer, don't do anything. Just make sure it's not one of those two versions and push play.
VERY well done, enjoyable movie which loses a point simply because of the ending/explanation that I didn't personally like. Enjoy.

And the daughter's name was Rindy. I thought it was Wendy, but my friend proved me wrong. I think I was just really wanting to eat Wendy's afterwards.
Finally saw 10 Cloverfield Lane. Highly recommend it. Go see it.
I also just rewatched Cloverfield. Such a great movie. Those that didn't enjoy it the first time, I'd say to give it another shot. I will say though, that I saw it when it first came out in theaters, and there was so much tension in the film, I loved that. Seeing it on a smaller tv screen just isn't the same, but still really enjoyable.
Also finally got to see Room. It was good, but man was it a sad depressing film. I don't know why I thought it might be a little brighter or uplifting for some reason. Also, having finally seen it, I'm shocked that the kid wasn't nominated for anything. He was absolutely phenomenal in it. Probably my favorite performance by an actor this past year. I'd also say that Brie was more of a supporting actor to his character in the film.

Agree with you on Room. Caught it yesterday.... kid was FANTASTIC~
I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane this weekend -- I'm glad I knew absolutely nothing about it going in. That's the best way to enjoy this creepy and compelling and surprising little film.

Agreed. I tried to stay away from the internet for a bit last week because I didn't want it to get spoiled for me.
