I just noted that in the second letter dated Dec 1989 ( should be 1988 ) that the publicist states "Recently we sent you a bound galley" and then later states "we have prepared special advance reading copies, and I am happy to enclose one". I wonder if the "bound galley" refers to another edition besides the orange and picture covers? Otherwise, since these letters above came with the orange cover proof, we must assume that the picture cover is the 'bound galley' he references and that the orange are the 'happy to enclose one'. But it could also mean that the picture cover is not the bound galley and that there exists another version.
All conjecture.

There are two states of the Plume Dark Tower II--the orange one and the black and orange one with the drawing on the front. I wonder if there is yet a third stage--a bound galley.
