    Did some research, looking at pub. dates for the book. Q37 was 9/8-14/1975 when book went to print. Sept. 22 letter noting Cody/Callahan error with 20,000 list as being printed (hand written 0, might have covered a 6) other sources have said 26,000 first editions printed. Q41 10/6-12/1975 is when second print was printed (7,500 copies). It seems at lease 27,500 copies were being processed for release date of 10/17/1975. So clipped 7.95 Cody and unclipped 7.95 Callahan were in warehouse before release and both jackets could be on 1st or 2nd editions (no 8.95 Cody on any copy). Does any one know more about what Doubleday did?

    All I know is the un-clipped $7.95 jackets were more or less prototypes, folded along the black/white portions of the jacket and tossed into a filing cabinet. I believe there were four of them. A dealer was offered them by someone at Doubleday, he bought or took them, kept one, sold one to me and three to other people. I still have mine.
    I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.

    And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...

    The un-clipped dust jackets are marked $7.95.

    See my post further down which proves I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

    Read the article and look at the pictures. There are 3 "states". The rarest is an un-clipped DJ with the price of $8.95 AND having the "Father Cody" error on the flap.
    There are other $8.95 uncliiped DJ's with the $8.95 price, but there are later versions that have the correct "Father Callahan" on the DJ flap.

    Woops! I retract my false statement. I confused even myself (which is relatively easy to do, but don't tell anyone). The price on the un-clipped jacket is indeed $8.95!

    I have just purchased a copy of Salem's Lot.
    First edition, 2nd state jacket.
    It is signed and inscribed and dated by "Steve King" on 25th November 1975.
    Are there many copies reported with an earlier date than this one.
    I was interested to know the level of signing that went on in a month, as I believe it was released in October.
