I looked all over for this information and David was able to help. I couldn't find it anywhere. Would this be a could place to put it?
Hi Glen-
Happy to help out. There are 3 states that I know of to the Lieutenant's
Rap...the 500 S/L (maybe only 200 in circulation), the Proof that is
numbered in pencil 1-24 signed by Michael Alpert and comes with a letter
from Michael, and an unknown number of "unsigned" proofs/S/Ls. To my
knowledge there are likely not more than 20-30 of these unsigned copies. All
3 versions are exactly the same in terms of layout and style and appearance.
The S/L is numbered and signed by King...the "real" proof is limited to 24,
signed and numbered in pencil by Alpert and then the unsigned copies.
Stu sold several "plain" versions at $500 many years ago. $700 for a plain
version is fair. A numbered proof with letter would command $1000 easily and
the S/L...well all depends if if has any of the "extras" such as the
necklace, envelope, quiz, or signed Tom Gordon that were all part of the
"package."
Hope that helps Glen....$700 is an ok price. A bit on high side but in
ballpark.
