Status:
Abel Vannay is a fictional character in author Stephen King’s
The Dark Tower series. Also known as Vannay the Wise, Vannay was one of the tutors of the gunslingers.
Educated by some of Gilead’s finest tutors, Vannay spent a great deal of time traveling abroad studying under various philosophers and often surpassing their knowledge.
Vannay was responsible for the gunslingers’ mental training, and believed fighting sometimes caused more problems than it resolved.
Vannay is responsible for giving Roland the nickname Gabby, on account of the boy’s tendency to be so quiet.
Vannay also had a son, Wallace, who died of the falling sickness.
