That's awful...a bump I could probably deal with...but there's nothing left to salvage of that.

Here is the problem.
Ebay's policy is that they SELLER is responsible for the package until it arrives. There is no more OPTIONAL insurance, but the seller does have the right to add the cist of the insurance to the shipping charge.
From the ebay website.....
Optional buyer charges for shipping insurance removed: The insurance option creates the perception that buyers need to purchase shipping insurance as a protection on eBay, an experience they're not accustomed to on other ecommerce sites. In fact, sellers have always been responsible for their items until they arrive safely in their customers' hands. That's why shipping insurance will no longer be included in the purchase flow as either an option or requirement for buyers.
Of course you can choose to purchase insurance on shipments, but not ask buyers to buy insurance separately. In some categories like Antiques, Collectibles, and Jewelry, shipping insurance for sellers is essential. When appropriate, you can include the cost of insurance in your item or shipping price.
In this case, the shipping was free. Clearly this is not the sellers fault that it got damaged, but it is his fault that he did not insure it.
I sent the the seller an email proposing that we split the loss. In truth, he should cover it all, but I would rather have half than nothing.
Clearly, something was jammed into the parcel for the pages to fold back on themselves like that.
This was not boating accident!

Yeah...he can take the half-loss, or all the loss, because if you dispute it through your CC you'll win. You're entitled to a refund, and he's obligated to accept it back.
Sucks though...there's no rationalization, no 'well, it's sort of okay.' Nope - that one is r-u-i-n-e-d.

I'm so sorry to see the package, Rick. Sorrier still to see a good book ruined like that. Hope you are able to recoup part of your purchase. Can the DJ be salvaged?. The damage from the pictures looks to be right over the bulk of the pages.
