Yes, I think it is great fun to discuss. Currey may make errors but I don't think he would misquote Grant. Also, I have been dealing with Currey for several years and he is meticulous in his listings. A true antiquarian bookseller. But, damn, his prices are on the high side.

I love this stuff. It would be great to scan the stuff in and save as a PDF. Time consuming, but wonderful archival information. I have some brochures I need to look through.

The Catalog is your friend. If they did a copy "AY", it seems possible-likely they did one more to complete the 52.

There are lettered copies of the Gunslinger but NOT the other books AFAIK.

Except for 26 lettered The Waste Lands that is correct. (AFAIK)

Where do you guys rate Quigley as a source? I just recieved "Stephen King Limited" as a freebie from CD and whizzed thro it. He goes along with the 35, saying there were "A-Z and AA-II marked".

Just an idea that is probably hard or impossible to tell, but does the "AY" lettering match the way the individual who wrote the "A-Z & AA-II" lettering? It not it would not be the first time I've known of a Grant DT S/L book to be blank in the "This is copy" section leaving open the possibility of writing in a letter or number. This would be much easier if Karen was still around to solve questions like this.

So I have been reading the talk about the rebound (for lack of a better term) ‘Salem’s Lot that is current up for auction. My question is what makes these valuable? I know there are some Dead Zone books that were made from the softcover version and the ‘Salem’s Lot they use unbound text block from the gift edition. I can see a difference there; modifying a production book versus taking something that was headed to the recycle bin and making it presentable. At what point do these post publisher editions become worth more than sum of their parts and the original publisher’s version? If collectors start putting a high value on these will we see gift editions being dismantled and rebound for a profit?

There is no more value to it than the price of a page block and a custom binding, IMHO.

The "value" is what the market will bear. Almost all rebound books I've seen were curiosities, but people are known to pay a lot for unique things.
I doubt the trouble and expense to convert a 1/600 'salem's Lot would be worth it. If the book up for auction sells for quite a bit (more than ~$1K), it might be easier to look for one of the other 29 in existence than trying to create one.

I remember the debate about a month or so ago about the custom-made edition of "The best 2007 american short stories", which from what I understood was an unofficial custom from signed paperbacks... therefore a custom rebound thing for about a hundred copy or so.
I am still convinced that doing so would be infringing copyrights, but...

    How so (USA CR law)?
If I buy a Toyota Camry and put gull-wing doors on it, paint it a garish non-factory puke green, stick decals on it that say Atoyot; I can legally sell the individual car I modified.
    P.S. No I don't actually own such a POS.
