Someone accidentally paypaled me a bit of money last night. Not much but still not nothing lol
I recognised the name and it was someone that bought something from me last month. Contacted the person and it was clearly a mistake, so I sent the money back, no worries
I then realised that, when the person sent me the money, paypal took some fees.
But I sent the whole money back, and therefore I lost the fees (!)
It's not much, but still. Not very happy to lose some money for someone's mistake.
I called paypal, they were understanding and even though they are apparently not allowed to give the money back, they gave me a voucher for slightly more. So it's all good in the end.
Why am I saying this?
Basically : be careful when reimbursing someone quickly. If there were fees, you may lose that money if you don't pay attention

E-Bay and PayPal are constantly sending me e-mails about changes in their payment fees and legal processes.
I can't keep up with them, so I just let them do whatever they want.
One day I'll get disgusted enough to just cancel them both and start using checks and money orders again (maybe).
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...
PayPal is ending fee-free Friends & Family payments for business accounts

And following my previous post, David at Betts posted the following on his website :
Just an FYI...PayPal just told me that BECAUSE I am a business, I can ONLY receive money as Goods and services (PayPal applies a fee to what I get from you), Friends and Family does NOT work any longer for me. Example...If you send me $400, I only get about $386 (PayPal charges 3% to 4%...international higher). I need to build this into my pricing....a lot of you just pay for the item, not shipping or PayPal fees. Just as credit cards charge a fee, so does PayPal and reiterate that Friends and Family should not be an option any more..

More changes coming to PayPal for those with a business account.
Just got notified that as of 10/31, business accounts will no longer be allowed to accept payments from outside the United States.
Also, U.S. accounts will not be allowed to send payment to business accounts outside the U.S.
Ouch, that's... annoying !
Anywhere to and from outside the US, or just some specific territories such as russia?

All countries: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mp...-policies-full.
It does appear, if I'm reading it correctly, a business account could send/receive from another business account, just not a personal account.
I could be wrong but I think you are reading it wrong. I went to the PayPal page and it says "personal transactions" won't be allowed. So I can't send a friend's and family or any personal transaction to foreign business accounts. Has to be for a good or service. If I can't use my personal PayPal to buy stuff on the internet from other countries that would be ridiculous.
I could be wrong but they have defined personal transaction on thier policy page.
I think you're right. The email I got from PayPal said I wouldn't be able to receive personal transactions and I took that to mean transactions from a personal account. I had received the notification about not being to accept F&F months ago, so I assumed this was taking it further. It admittedly makes no sense so perhaps I overreacted. Blame the COVID brain
So from that page indeed :
U.S. business accounts will not be able to receive personal transactions from PayPal accounts outside the U.S. starting October 31, 2022.
U.S. PayPal accounts will not be able to send personal transactions to business accounts outside the U.S. starting October 31, 2022.
My understanding is also that, for getting money from and sending money to outside the US it will have to be good and services.
No more FF (for US business accounts)

In general PP now charges 3.49% plus a nominal 49 cents per transaction.
I think most people round it up to 4% .
Eventually PP is going to get a F&F fee.
In fact, for international payments, it's tough to avoid.
I often use this site as it keeps up with the eBay fee changes (exactly as Jerome stated)

No sure if it accounts for crossing borders as Kris stated.
Hope it helps!

Thanks for the replies....they have been very informative.
Going forward.....I will be asking for F&F or 2% instead of the 1.5% I have been asking for.
I personally am a fan of splitting Paypal fees if there is any concern over sending F&F.

Paypal also no longer allows you to pay in the currency of the country you are sendingf. They used to allow you to choose currency conversion on your card or bank but that feature is no longer available, at least from what I've seen. Now you have to use Paypal's conversion which is much higher than your bank plus a fee on top.

It used to be 2.9% plus $0.29 (or $0.49)
Last night, someone in the US sent me $392.50...ebay took $11.74 leaving me with $380.76.
$11.74 is 2.99% of $392.50...so there is a disconnect here somewhere.
2.9% of $392.50 is $11.38 plus $0.36 is $11.74.
So.....domestically in the US....it appears Paypal is charging about 3%.

I just read an article online that said PayPal, wants to fine people $2500 for misinformation when using your accounts.
That's means if your found guilty by paypal 4 times that's $10,000 taken from your account. The misinformation penalty
Appears to be very vague to me. The online article was found on the news site TheStreet.
Paypal won't do it in the end
According to the headlines I read, I didn't read the full articles yet
