Every time I visited my grandmother over the last 20-some years, we made it a point of treating it as if it would be the last time we spoke; it always ended with an I Love You and See You Next Time, knowing that there might not be and one day for sure there wouldn't be. The last time I saw her, in September, I think we both knew there probably wouldn't be a next time; she made a comment as such, but of course we joked about it and moved on. We still said I Love You and See You Next Time, but it was different. I don't regret for a second having that last conversation and saying that final goodbye, and I'll bet ... with time ... your wife won't either. The regret of loss and being unable to help someone you love is a strong and devastating emotion, but the memories of love will win out in the end.Quote Originally Posted by webstar1000 View Post

He had a doctor assisted suicide the following day.... He told her this. It didn't help her... it didn't make it easier or better. We may all wish to have a final "good bye" to the ones we love but when given that opportunity it doesn't make it easier. Will it in time for her? I am not sure... pretty shitty anyway you look at it though other than he is no longer in pain. I dread the 'goodbyes' that may come in my lifetime... I know that.

So I just found out that the guy that runs another message board that I'm a part of (and have been for about 20 years now) just passed away from cancer. He was literally the owner and operator of the boards.
I'm not sure how I feel about it because I never met him IRL but we had a bit of a history together. Both good and bad. He hadn't been actually active on the board in about 10 years but he continued to pay the bills and do all the upgrades for it. His wife was also a member but AFAIK, hasn't said anything about what will happen in the future. The place isn't as active as it was 10 or 15 years ago but it's a decent-sized community.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?
The new site is live and Larson will be periodically publishing new material starting in 2020.

Has anyone ever noticed that this site has the highest concentration of accredited movie critics than any other site on the world wide web? lol lol lol
Those whose last names aren't Weinstein or Wienstien or whatever and who can't afford expensive casting couches and Italian sports cars to present to aspiring actresses after 'introducing' themselves to these debutantes on said couches, become critics instead. It's a lot cheaper and doesn't (usually) lead to jail time, although it's a lot less fun. Until one lands in jail (unless you think that's fun).
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...
Sorry to hear this, Kris.
I'm glad that he was able to go on his own terms - something that's not possible in a lot of places - but I'm sad that your wife didn't get the goodbye she might have liked.
I do think that time will make it easier, at least I hope so. Lots of losses for a number of people in the community this year.
Merry Christmas! May everyone have a shiny new book under the tree!
