Honestly, these are all great characters. I like something about each of them... but, like I said - I just had to go with Ian. I still quote him at least once a week.

I am so torn.
Intellectually I know that I should go with Elwood P. Dowd, but Ash is iconic in horror and definitely one of the BHMCOAT. And Ian Malcolm* is also a fabulous character, Jeff Goldblum at his best. I honestly don't know what to do.
*Incidentally, yes, I knew about chaos theory long before JP, too. We discussed it in our interdisciplinary HP courses. Plus, my best friend's PhD is in chaos theory. But Jeff G. rocked the role.

remains less than impressed with Ian Malcolm.
Give me Lord Toranaga, give me Lois Lane as played by Margo Kidder, give me any Buddy Hackett role, but I saw truly and honestly nothing in JG's performance that has remained with me. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with those who did (they may be nuttier than squirrel shit, but it ain't because of them liking the character); I'm just saying I didn't.
