Most of my Doubleday Kings are in pretty good to almost mint shape. I started collecting them just before the King fever really got going. Lucky me. As I've said before, I paid $45 for the signed CARRIE, and at the time was dissapointed that King had signed it because it meant he'd opened the pages all the way. I know, I'm weird.
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.

Oh, and Paul was likely referring to the NEL paperback with the UK trade edition artwork. Very scarce! Second copy I've seen (I used to own one that I sold to Bob years ago.
My NEL paperback could be in better shape. I did not know it was scarce. I knew I shouldn't have torn that page out when I couldn't find a Kleenex!

I bought this proof on E-Bay and it came today with absolutely no protection in a manila non-padded mailer. Surprisingly, it survived pretty much intact. THE BEST OF RICHARD MATHESON Penguin, Oct. 2017. I wish my Sony digital camera, which I paid a few hundred dollars for, hadn't given up the ghost (I will NEVER buy another Sony product, they wanted more to fix the camera's problem, which was a manufacturer's defect, then a new one would cost) Now I use my Minolta, which I paid $1700 for about ten years ago (more, because I had to pay it off on a credit card), which, although it has more features than I know what to do with, doesn't take as clear a picture.

That's the one. Far as I know it's the true 1st paperback release. I've never been able to find one. I have the other early version which itself is hard to find. I don't either. My resources are pretty much focused on the press now. I just happened to see it and it was a paperback so didn't cost much which was good. And yes, if I get tired of it I will keep that in mind...

One of the books I didn't have the dumbness to pass up at the time, like the CARRIE proof, the asbestos FIRESTARTER (twice!), the extra S/N GUNSLINGER for $85, half a dozen copies of SIX STORIES also for $85 apiece, the GREEN MILE proofs, the...now where'd I put that club I use to beat myself up with anyway?
Oh yes, it does have the crease along the black/white border. As far as I know, all the unclipped jackets have the same crease.
