    Default Top 5 Movie Scores

I saw a favorite soundtrack thread, but wanted to know if there are any score nerds like me...

    1. Ennio Morricone - Any Sergio Leone flick he scored (seriously it would be a crime to just pick one)
    2. Danny Elfman - Batman (dark brooding theme, love it, feels it captures batman perfectly)
    3. John Williams (jeez.... i guess i'll pick one SERIES: scores he did for star wars)
    4. Basil Poledouris - Conan the Barbarian (sheer awesomeness)
    5. Howard Shore - Lord of the Rings (very otherworldly, love the whole vibe)

    clint mansell - the fountain

    dot. period. the end.

which doesn't mean i'm not going to have a listen to the other scores. i'm a score nut that way.

Agreed on Ennio Morricone. Last year came to México and I went to hear him. Oh, bliss! Bliss and glory! I love Once Upon a Time in America, The Good The Bad and the Ugly and of course The Mission. And my fav of favs: The Legend of 1900. Those scores are simply the best of all time!

Also I like The Truman Show score, Phillip Glass and Burkhard Dallwitz, fantastic movie and music.

Zbigniew Presnier and his Bleu's score... awesome!

Howard Shore (LORT) and Vangelis (Alexander, 1492, etc...) also are in my top list.

    Ta.

Rosie, nice to meet ya! Great score, was listening to it the other day!

The pattern I'm noticing is that you like Tim Burton movies, flagg!

murlodin, I completely agree with you on your ennio choices! and I envy you for getting to hear him live! Good job mentioning Glass, forgot all about him, LOVE his work! And Vangelis... how can I forget Vangelis! Awesome with the keyboards...

Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
    Ennio Morricone - Dollars trilogy
Tom Waits/John Lurie - Down by Law (the songs they used were perfect for this movie!)
    Air - The Virgin Suicides
Angelo Badalamenti/various other people - Lost Highway

honorable mention: Michael Andrews/Miranda July - Me And You And Everyone We Know

I guess my general soundtrack formula = jazz, Italians, and/or synthesizers

THIS is the thread for me!
    1. Peter Gabriel - Passion from (The Last Temptation of Christ) - I could listen to this over and over and over...
    2. John Williams - really hard to pick... I would say Star Wars series
    3. Tan Dun - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    4. Phillip Glass - Candyman (that's another weird one, I know... one of the times I loved the music way more than the movie)
    5. Danny Elfman - Batman
Buddy, you think you look strong? You’re wearing a cape.

So flaggwalkstheline is an Elfman fan. I don't blame him, Elfman is VERY good.
    Here's my picks in order.

    1. The Empire Strikes Back - by John Williams (just because of The Imperial March)
    2. Star Wars - by John Williams
    3. Superman the Movie - by John Williams
    4. Raiders of the Lost Ark - by John Williams
    5. Batman - (the only non-Williams entry) by Danny Elfman

I'm a John Williams fan myself.
Margaret Emmie Mackey Catoe, you are, have been, and always will be my soulmate, and I love you.
Con todo mi corazon, por todo de mis dias. And I always will, in this life and into the next.

I'm really into soundtracks so its hard for me to pick but here goes 5 of my favorites...

    Star Trek 6.....Cliff Eidelman
Birdy........Peter Gabriel (if you like the "Passion" soundtrack you might want to check this out)
    LotR.........Howard Shore
    Thief.........Tangerine Dream
    Dark City.....Trevor Jones

I love Elfman's stuff too. Used to listen to the Batman soundtrack over and over and over. Williams...great. Dances with Wolves, Lion in Winter and all the stuff everyone else mentioned...awesome. But I figured these two got enough mention already.

    One of my favorites is:
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis

I listen to it on a regular basis. You guys should check it out if you haven't heard it.

I'm also a big fan of Elfman's work with Burton. Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, etc.

Sam, you a John Williams fan? Psshh... I would've never known.

Cozener, you reminded me of Legend! At least the American cut, it gets an honorable mention from me, loved Tangerine Dream's score from that flick!

Heather, I remember seeing the flick, and enjoying the music, but never got around to getting it, I'll jump on that! Good taste!

I used to have the Legend soundtrack! Have no idea what happened to it. It was a cassette though...I'm sure it got ruined somehow.

I still have the Conan soundtrack somewhere. Great stuff...as is the The Hunt for Red October.

I also have the soundtrack to Alexander Nevsky by Sergey Prokofiev Awesome. I think this soundtrack had some influence Poledouris's work. Sounds like it anyway.

Thanks for the tip Coz! That Alexander Nevsky stuff is great!

And for fans of the LOTR score.... get the complete recordings, because holy shit, its amazing. Its like having the extended editions of the soundtracks. Complete epicness.

EDIT: Forgot about the score to Perfume! (awesome movie, if you haven't seen it!) My favorite piece from the soundtrack: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMFMAJPWuHE"]YouTube - ♬ Perfume Soundtrack - Meeting Laura (with lyric)[/ame]
