Gambit.
I just love Remy Etienne LeBeau (and isn't that a lovely name, too?).
And he kicks ass, too.

He is my favourite male X-Men character all snogging aside, just as Rogue has always been my favourite female X-er
I love the Joker, but I think that sort of power that relies on the unpredicatability of your own insanity, is more fallable in the long run.

"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."
*sigh*
*drools a little*
.. what? oh, thanks, JB! <3

Okay, so back to why Gambit would be able to take The Joker... I think it all lies in the fact that he's got mutant ability, while The Joker does not.
Gambit is able to charge any organic or non-organic matter within his line of sight through thought. He doesn't even have to get close to The Joker to completely bombard him with energy charged objects.
Also, in fighting against The Joker - During combat, Gambit customarily wears a suit of highly articulated light body armor and uses a telescopic metal staff. He is extensively trained in martial arts, particularly French kick-boxing or savate.
Gambit would kick The Joker's arse.
