You're right! Edited! I just tried to do a quick list and didn't think of them. I think Dean/Neal is my favorite of the two though I love them both.

A "favorite characters of Jean" list without Hamlet? Sacrilege!

    Dale Cooper (Twin Peaks)
    Roland Deschain (duh)
    Cuthbert Allgood (see above)
    John Locke (lost)

    The Judge (Blood Meridian)
    Ben Linus (Lost)
Anton Chigur (No Country For Old Men)

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch. Trying to make it a spontaneous thing.
    That's cool! Spontaneity is awesome.
IMO, categories the way you've done them do not hurt at all, here. Personally, though, I would have put Agent Cooper in "other?".

Okay, it took some effort, but I thought carefully about these lists, and I finally deduced your Amazon passwords so that I could charge stuff to your credit cards.
While I was at it, I picked out another batch of other characters, just for fun.

    Ozymandias: Han Solo (Star Wars)
LadyHitchhiker: Dr. Peter Venkman (Ghost Busters)
    Kidd Ikarus: Connor MacLeod (Highlander)
    cody44: Mitch Taylor (Real Genius)
ola: Edmond Dantès (The Count of Monte Cristo)
Brice: Martin Blank (Grosse Pointe Blank)
    Jean:
"Cats are never fooled by appearances, unlike human beings, who seem to enjoy it."
    --The Cat,
    The Last Unicorn
Woofer: I have a sneaking suspicion that eventually you will really pull a Dr. Cox all over me. I'll do what I can, tho, whenever you're ready to play.

Big-big bearbrother, your list is beautiful. It tells that you're an incredible person, but no surprise there.

My list.. hmm. Let's give it a try.

    1. Cuthbert Allgood
    2. Henry Leyden (Black House)
    3. Fëanor Curufinwë (Silmarillion)
    4. Huan (Silmarillion)
    5. Oy
    6. Aslan (Chronicles of Narnia)
    7. Sam Winchester (Supernatural)
    8. Han Solo (Star Wars)
    9. Captain Nemo (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea)
    10. Walter Cuthbert Blythe (Rainbow Valley, an Anne of Green Gables book)

erm.. I'm definitely seeing a pattern here. I am. I think so.

Don't forget about The Mysterious Island, Lily.
I see one pattern, already; good taste. Like Jean.
I loved the Anne of Green Gables books, when I was a kid.

I think of it as probably my best tdt.com post so far.

For a tv lawman, Cooper was definitely unconventional. "Coffee, coffee, coffee..."

As for the quibble over the show's cancellation, I think that Twin Peaks, just as it currently exists, is utterly perfect. More would be about as bad as the idea of having a Pet Semetary 2. The existing Twin Peaks totally subverts tv pablum, which fits, since the series really was reflecting on the television medium, itself, all along. The bumbling detective ironically named "Andy," identical cousins from The Patty Duke Show, the one-armed man from The Fugitive... and the list goes on. It is hilarious to me that the "save our show" campaign led to final episodes which

It's no wonder that folks here keep trying to distance themselves from the villains which interest them. That's just exactly what villains are for, isn't it? We all have potential for evil. The point of studying it is to avoid becoming it. I'm not too proud to admit that some of the darkness listed on this thread is part of my own nature. Categorizing "good" and "bad" characters obviously makes our fiction more simplistic. We need to take great care in how we deal with the facts. Play with fire, and you might get burned.

Awesome. I really liked Connor MacLeod. And it's pretty funny . . . I was just thinking about the Highlander movies the other day . . . specifically his sword.

I don't have the memory for something like this, but I think it can be summed up with:
Anyone played by Christopher Walked and John Malkovich.
and Heike, from The Legend of the Ice People.
Some are born to sweet delight,

some are born to the endless night.

I was thinking "good guy" = hero.
I'll definitely be reading that post!

As for the quibble over the show's cancellation, I think that Twin Peaks, just as it currently exists, is utterly perfect.
It took a while to get over TP's ending. Because it wasn't an ending. What I accepted eventually was something like what you said: if it had continued, it couldn't have gotten much better. Even as the Black Lodge/White Lodge conflict became more of a focus after solving the murder...other parts of the show got even more goofy and distracting - and they would have been obligated to continue all the lame soap opera sub plots along with the story. Might as well have left with some strong imagery and question mark

I don't know how they would have pulled off the 25 years thing passing anyway. (At least, this is what I have to tell myself every time I watch the last season.)

It's no wonder that folks here keep trying to distance themselves from the villains which interest them...Play with fire, and you might get burned.
Yeah, the most compelling villains often have the same, solid sense of purpose as the heroes do. The best of both sides can get mixed into the same gray pot. The realistic, sometimes ambiguous depiction of evil in a character is one of the most powerful things in any medium...it's something that people can relate to but don't usually want to relate to, because humans want have a sense of purpose without having to stop and examine that purpose every now and then. People just don't have the time to, I guess. Or don't find it useful, because it can seem to do more harm than good at first.

Don't be sorry at all. I loved your answer because we don't know each other yet. I hope we will.
Anyway I do try to be smooth with the ladies. They are so beautiful and most of them have no idea about it.. so I try my best.

    Roland would have understood.

Letti, there's nothing wrong with Ace Ventura, and you are awesome, you already know that.
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."

After reading through this, and thinking about it nearly the entire night, I can finally say there's no way I could post up a "quick-10" fav characters...I'm such a huge fiction nerd, in all media forms...so I probably have somewhere in the ballpark of hundreds of loved characters.
I actually did attempt a quick count of 10 characters, but felt bad when I re-read my rough draft, because I'd think of 10 more who I thought were equally awesome. Reading other people's posts did the same thing to me, too.

In any case, as you were, folks. I like reading these.

Elodin: "Tombs is for feckless twits who can't chew their own food. My boy's a Re'lar! He has the feck of twenty men!"

Kvothe: “Books are a poor substitute for female companionship, but they are easier to find.”

Simmon: ”It’s just ointment in case you get burned...but if you mix it with piss, it turns into candy.” Sim’s expression was deadpan. “Delicious candy.”

Bricey, I thought you'd have Cthulhu on your list. Ah, but I know the reason. You don't like him anymore because he doesn't let us talk.
Wait! The Scarecrow? I knew you were awesome but... But, now you're awesomer!!!
