Resurrecting an old-ish thread I know, but I have to say that I would kill not so much as be the director as the Main VFX Sup working with the Dir doing the Legends of Dune Trilogy. Its just the CG artist in me mixed with a profound love for Dune.

Western is not an option, my mood shall be grumpy now.
I said porn simply because I think it would be the easiest kind of movie to direct. Since I've never directed a movie I figured I'd start off with something a little more pedestrian.
Oh and Westerns could go under Action or maybe Adventure. I don't think they rate their own genre. Subgenre, sure. Genre, no.
Sci-Fi for me. Would love to turn one of Iain M Banks Culture books into a film. The Player of Games as its my favorite he has written so far.

I am still with the drama but maybe.. if I truly had the chance I would try to make a documenary.

In all seriousness, I think I would make a crime suspense film (that would be drama). A couple from that genre would be Silence of the Lambs or Kiss the Girls.

Personally, I prefer tragedy.
I might like to direct a romance, but certainly not a romantic comedy. I want art to make waves.
I love good fantasy and science fiction, (read "good" as "meaningful") but I'm voting here for Documentary because, if it is being able to make just one film that we're talking about, then I'd want to be quite clear about my point.
I like this idea.
We just need to find some semi-respectable financiers.
I voted something else. There'd be three remakes, live-action: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mario Brothers and Resident Evil retitled as "Biohazard." The Turtles would be a trilogy and Mario a single movie. Biohazard would be four or five movies. Then there'd be an original movie based on some fantasy ideas I've been kicking around a writing in various notebooks about.
Something else.
Horror would be an indefeasible component of it, but I think it would have a very mixed genre; unclassifiable movie.
I picked other, cuz i couldn't check all of them. I'd direct the most horrific love tale of two c.i.a. operatives on the run in the siberian wasteland while trying to confront their true chemical romance for eachother. so then there would be some ewwie porno stuff then the film crew filming this incredible true documentary tell the two guys its just a huge joke....
