There is so much smoke from all of the fires around the state, that at 9:30 AM it was a dark as dusk, and the sky was a Mars like orange hue:

They are a safe distance away, but the sheer volume of smoke has risen into the upper atmosphere creating the situation you see.

The towns nearby us have evacuated from the Oregon (Santiam Valley) fires. Salem Oregon, where I live, might be put on the "Get Ready" list if things worsen in the next day. Smoke is really bad here. My partners family had their homes burned to the ground, just 30 miles from us. So sad! The mens prison I work in was evacuated yesterday...just think about evacuating 900 inmates to another prison...imagine the clusterf**k that was! Things are a bit scary and we are all on edge. When we got back to the prison yesterday afternoon, it was entirely filled with smoke. I have the tote containers out to start putting my expensive King items in if things get any worse. Crazy that that thread about "what prized items from your collection would you take in a fire" was just going around the other day. Now that day might be here. Please pray for lots of misplaced folks out there! There are tons of RV's parked along my neighborhood of displaced families from nearby towns. Thanks for letting me rant about this...we're getting a little scared around here.

Same here in SF Bay Area. A perpetual dusk, with light ashfall. Quite eerie. The temp has dropped 30 degrees F from a few days ago, too.

Goddamn, that's some scary shit, I'm sorry to hear it. My best to all of you dealing with such a catastrophe on top of everything else. It's giving me a vague suffocating feeling just thinking about it, and I'm on the other side of the country; I can only imagine how blindingly stressful it must be for you. I know it's been said, but be safe everyone.
