While I use and recommend an SSD/HDD combo for a desktop, for a laptop I think SSD only is fine. An HDD will add a lot of weight. SSDs have the issue that eventually they die, and you can't recover data from them when they do, which is why you should BACK UP YOUR SHIT!

8MB of RAM, 256MB of Flash and an Intel i5 is pretty much exactly the specs of my work MacBook, and for casual use it should be fine, if you don't mean to store lots of media files on it. I agree with comments about the 17" screen being a bit cumbersome; mine is a 13" 4:3 which is fine for most things (which would be the equivalent of a 15" widescreen, I guess).

I got that same email several months ago. It ended up being a story on the local news after several people complained to a consumer affairs hotline about whether or not the email was a Scamp

Hey, I really appreciate all your advice and remarks concerning my laptop purchase (especially yours, Herbert and HBJ. Very simple and useful George, I appreciate it but whew, right over my head!!! LOL). The screen size is not a big issue for me as I don't travel with it alot (not counting hospital visits!!! ) though I suppose a new carry case will be in order come to think of it so, thanks for that (doh) head's up.

I don't store alot other than pics of my grandsons (which IDK how the fuck I'm going to retrieve from the fucking dead laptop!!! At least nothing can be done until after this crisis is abated). No films or large files, etc. I back up to with my Norton subscription which I figure is pretty safe as online storage goes. i buy the Blu-Rays of my favorite movies and give the digital PW/ACCESS to my kids/Grandkids. So I guess I'm good to go. I'm unsure about the SSD vs HDD. Jerome advised a solid state drive so I was happy to see that included. I'm unsure if there will be a DVD/compact disc drive included (I was kinda surprised at the general lack of detailed specs available that I could find). Overall, given your collective remarks and my casual needs I guess I did alright price and features. i wanted 12 GB Ram, but it was not available.

It probably doesn't have an optical drive. I bought a new computer last year after my burglary and found it very rare for any laptop to come with a optical drive of any kind. Only saw two or 3 models with one, so I snagged one while I could (actually it was a build to spec). I too prefer the big screens. My eyes aren't that great for reading anymore.

EDIT: if necessary you can always get a USB optical drive. I think they are dirt cheap.

It's very likely because your email/pwd has leaked, in the past during a security breach.

Bill, get yourself the equivalent of one of these. I'm sure your local BestBy or US equivalent will have one.

Then open the back of your old laptop (should be a few screws ) and get access to the inside. The 2.5" drive should be easily accessible. If not search for the laptop model number on Google with "remove hard drive" and I'm sure you'll find something to help. Once removed the old drive can be placed in the new enclosure and simply plugged in to the new laptop. You can then access all your old files including photos.

Once you have transferred all you need, you can then reformat the old drive and now you have a nice backup drive to use with your new laptop!

Im becoming very restless... I do not really have depression issues but I feel a feeling (anxious?) I don't get often. I was going out tomorrow on my Side by Side but that has been shut down now... not allowed in the woods? WTF. I am not sure how much longer I can sit home I fear that many people are going to go crazy... and I mean crazy if this keeps going. We have 373 cases in 1.1 million people in my home province. I'd say embrace the feelings. Don't fight against them and give yourself permission to feel them. Otherwise it will just create more anxiety. This is an opportunity to learn about yourself. It's through adversity that you grow, and become stronger. But also don't dwell on them. Control your thoughts.
