    I faced virtually the same dilemma a few weeks back. Fortunately it was a weekday morning. The City called the owners # on the water bill, and a friend of the owner's (who were both at work 1+ hours away) came out and turned the water off. That evening they had the pipe break repaired.
    I was going to turn the water off if it continued to leak after 5pm.

    Was it the right thing to do; morally yes. Legally, probably not but your "exposure" would be minimal.

    Yes. I don't think there is any liability for turning this off and I believe you probably did the right thing. If not it is easily fixed.

    I'm thinking that these shouldn't just be slipped in the rack sandwiched between others... they'd warrant their own display stand and lots of elbow room... kind of like the limited stand and the lettered my pretty pony (or most other lettered eds.)

    I'm not one to post complaints about life, etc., but this is aggravating - mostly because in my head I knew it would happen, and then it happened.

    So I had a refrigerator - Whirlpool - that I replaced a couple years back. It was 20 years old, and while it was kind of scuzzy, and probably not working at peak efficency, it was working, and no problems, etc. Again - it was 20 years old with a 1993 manufacturing date, and I'm sure it would be working at some level today....though the door seal was starting to give, which motivated the desire to replace.

    So we replace it with a $2500 Whirlpool French Door, blah blah top of the line, etc. Even as I bought it, I was 100 percent certain that it wouldn't last no 20 years.

    What do you think the punchline to the story is? Not even two years later and the compressor goes - so the freezer isn't freezing and the refrigerator is going downhill fast.

    It's under warranty and the extended protection, so it's not the money - it will be fixed - eventually - with no problems, but of course it's all sorts of aggravation dealing with defrosting food (and they do provide a reimbursement, but again, not the point), and trying to salvage some stuff and throw it other stuff. Plus, my g/f had handmade a lot of stuff that took a fair amount of time. And of course, I have to wait for them to schedule the repair, then be here for the repair, and that assumes they CAN repair it, and we don't have to wait more time for a replacement...so who knows. We went out and bought a 3 cubic foot mini-fridge.

    So this stupid Whirlpool is slathered with "Made in America" stickers, and it just made me realize that I would not buy a mechanical product/car that was built by an American on a bet - maybe in 1995, but not in 2015. You buy Japanese or Chinese, and that's it - these American companies pay their workers crap wages, busted the unions, eliminated any reason for employee loyalty - fuck them. I was considering a Ford or Hyundai for a new car, and it might not be a Hyundai, but it for damn sure won't be a Ford.

    Probably have to look at LG, Samsung, or Bosch.

    My son is an appliance repairman and a specialist on refrigerators.
    He says LG and Samsung are the worst (highest number of service calls), and Bosch is the best.
    He mentioned that most of the "Made in the USA" stuff is manufactured in Mexico and then assembled in the USA.

    Thank you Herbert. It was a great cake (if I do say so myself) and as we are in monsoon season, the Heavens opened up and rewarded us with a torrent of water.
    This weekend was also my gf's birthday. I offered her for Christmas an hot air balloon trip, so we managed to do it this weekend (was planned on friday for her actual birthday, but was cancelled for weather reasons, but managed to do it on saturday). Was simply amazing, and I topped it by offering earrings to her while in the air.

    It's beautiful, but it isn't Versailles. Versailles is on a MUCH grander scale. Believe me, got lost for most of the day strolling and biking around the estate, though there are worse things. Here is a basic aerial shot of the front area of Versailles.

    My Versailles tale (besides getting lost for most of the day) is that we rented bikes for a few hours in the morning and when we returned them, found an outdoor cafe/restaurant next to the Grand Canal. Our French was pretty non-existent except for a few nouns and verbs, so we weren't particularly suited to read the menu, so I saw something that appeared to be a Ham & Cheese sandwich and made our attempt at ordering with some modification. What arrived on the plate was "Freedom Fries" which we didn't order and some rolled up cold ham. It was NOTHING like the menu dish, nor what I thought I had tried to order, but buckled down and ate what was brought to me since it was my Lost In Translation moment.

    Also, since the trip had me away from work for several weeks, I had the freedom to dye my hair a color temporarily that I'd always wanted to try out for the hell of it. So, we're walking around Versailles all day, and there is a busload of French schoolgirls as well that we occasionally pass as well. They have LATCHED onto my hair color and our entire day is punctuated by calls of "Bleu! BLEUUUUU!" both faint and piercing. HUNDREDS of times. I don't understand anything else just "BLEUUU!!" and laughing. I'm glad they got such a kick out of it, but by then, I'd spent a week in London with it coming off on our towels and clothes, and had the memories of our day in Versailles imprinted forever by it, so first thing the next morning, I had all the hair buzzed off for the rest of our time in Paris and Rome, where it REALLY would have been out of place.

    Thanks for letting me share my little Versailles story!

    You should. It's not Versailles : it's about 3h away from Paris. It's called "Pays de la Loire" (a part of France) where there are dozens of castles
    >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%...e_Loire_Valley

    It was planned the day before. But it was cancelled hours before the flight, so it was a lot of stress as I had to find a car at the "last minute" (I usually borrow a friend's car but he needed it that week-end).

    As for doing it one day : there was a couple in it that was doing their honeymoon, and they apparently came from Indonesia especially for this hot air balloon trip and then go to the south of France !

    We were about 12 + the pilot on the hot air balloon and all of us agreed that you do not feel any vertigo. It's complicated to explain, but you go slowly in the air, we passed very closed to trees, we could see heron nests on the trees... and it was dead silent in the air, it was awesome. And obviously, 1h is a lot longer than sky diving. Very enjoyable, and not cold.

    As for her lucky to have me, I like to think so, but cant tell for her. Especially since we've been together for almost 8 years and dont want to get married. BUT we found a compromise on this matter.

    In the past month or so we did discuss about doing a "Civil Solidarity Pact" (it's sort of like getting married but not really : meaning, it's legally recognising us as a couple and giving us the same legal rights as a married couple).
    >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_solidarity_pact

    I sort of avoided the question entirely because I didn't want to just talk about it say "ok let's do it". I wanted to "ask her" if she wanted to do so...

    So I gave her the earrings while watching the sceneries in the air... and asked her! She was surprised and happy ! (And later she liked even more the jewelry after I explained to her the meaning of the silver 'meteorite' earrings)

    Hence why those last few days were really stressful for me because I wanted to ask her in the air, ON her birthday ! And why I was stressed when it was cancelled because of the weather! I wanted to make the "asking" special and ON or close to her birthday!

    The absence of a thing, this can be as deadly as the presence. The absence of air, eh?
    The absence of water? The absence of anything else we're addicted to.

    Yeah, I know it isn't, and wasn't, that weird. It was really just a lark that I'd never been able to do before with my job.
