All the best David! You'll do fine, I'm certain.
In an odd turnaround my sister has a second interview at Credit Suisse in NYC. I knew you were there for quite a while, so would you have a positive recommendation of that company?
I just read the good news, David. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you as well. I'm sure all will be well. Good Luck.

Okay, I have a random question.
I have a lot of old first edition books, like Lassie Come-Home and Little House on the Prairie. I try very hard to keep them in good condition, but lately they are starting to look a little worn and they hardly ever get handled. I don't know if it's the weather down here (extremely humid) or if it's just something in my house, but what is the best way to protect them without ruining them?
Hey Shy, there's some good threads here:

Had lunch today with Steve (batsker). We were able to hang around a shoot the shit for about an hour, and it was good times. Anyone on his route the rest of the way - don't miss out on the chance!
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Thanks! I'm still a little new at this kind of stuff. I will probably need more navigation tips in the future!
Welcome, Shy!
Eric and batsker, I'm glad you two were able to meet up. Take any photos? If so, please post them here.
Wiz, congrats on the way you handled the pension benefits and that great career lead!
I realized by the 3rd meeting with a member, that I hadn't been taking pictures(Sorry Geoff and Eric). I hope to do so at all future meetings, and I will most definitely post them here when time permits. I already have one with Darkmaniscoming, and I will post several at once when I stop and slow down for a few minutes. All in all, it's been fun so far, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the trip.

Just finished reading 'The Story of Edgar Sawtelle'. Incredible writing and though languid, and a bit maudlin, a wonderful read.

Remember, Remember, The Fifth of November, The Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot.
I really liked it too as did my wife.
I have just finished DROOD by Simmons and thought it was fantastic. Easily my favorite book of this relatively young year.
I am about halfway through NEXT by Michael Crichton and like it also. I've had it on my shelf for about two years and now I wonder why I have put off reading it.
Bob, I also just finished Drood a week or so ago and agree--it's a great book. Simmons' research he does for his books has to be tremendous! If you haven't read it, I'd suggest reading his The Terror. It's also a great read!
John
Yeah, I'm only about halfway through it and already thinking about re-reading it.
Did you know that there is another book with the same story line issued the same time as DROOD?. Matthew Pearl's THE LAST DICKENS. I am reading it now right after DROOD and it is facinating to me how authors will spin a completely different plot based on very similar research and characters. Pearl's book is quite interesting as well.
I just finished DROOD, and I have a HB copy of THE TERROR I brought on my trip, as well as an unabridged audiobook of EDGAR SAWTELLE. I also recently picked up a clearance copy of NEXT from Barnes & Noble, which I haven't started yet. Very interesting coincidence!!

The only Simmons book I couldn't finish was The Crooks Factory. I just couldn't do it. I didn't like the SF books that much either, although I did finish those I started.
I'll have to check out Pearl's book.
John
The first time I read THE CROOK FACTORY I gave up about one fourth of the way through. A year or so later I was talking to Bev (well, e-mailing actually) and he said something that led me to want to pick it up again. I did and really enjoyed it the second time. It is not for everyone though, I guess.
Simmons is an excellent writer. I wish Centipede Press would do a limited of Summer Of Night.
I'm enjoying the shit out of Drood. Can't wait to pick it up again when I get the chance but I'm not far in.
