The only solution

The leader of a prison (I am sorry if my words aren't perfect but I translate these riddles from Hungarian to English) was in big trouble and he went to the tricky and wise Hodzsa.
- Oh, wise Hodzsa! I am in big trouble. - that's how he started. - You are the only person who can help me.
- What has happened? - asked Hodzsa.
- Just one little thing. Our Lord (God gives him long life) has visited our prison and he had a little conversation with an inmate and he got to like him. "How long will he have to be here" - asked our Lord. "Till death." - I answered.
The Lord started to nod and he told me to half the captivity of that inmate. But how could I do such a thing? Who knows when he would die?
- I know the solution. - said Hodzsa with a big smile on his face.


What can be the solution?

After some thought on this one, I have come to only one conclusion...
Kill him and bring him back through medical means. I know it's not likely to be right, but it's the best I've got.

well there's always the option of settign a date for him to dies that is twice as long as he's been in jail. then let him out.

He won't be killed. He must stay in the prison as long as he lives.

I've got an answer. He is released one day at a time, every other day, until he dies. How does that sound? This way he serves one day in prison, one day free, then repeat the cycle.
