I was soooo disappointed with The Matrix. I only finally watched it this year after years of people telling me I'd love it...it was booooooring!!

I thought Casino was pretty crap too, just same old shit served up a different way.

Gladiator I thought was good, best performance I've seen from Russell Crowe, but again it wasn't very original...so another vote for Blues Brothers...I'll sometimes watch that film just to see Cab Calloway sing Minnie the Moocher

No, why? You could choose any, sleep peacefully through it and end your life in some beautiful dream of your own.

whatever the performance, from the point of view of history, logic, or common sense it could only be regarded as a spoof - almost as funny as Asterix and Obelix, but far below any Monty Python.

Exactly. Although on some levels it can be funnier than Python because with Gladiator, the filmmakers thought they were making a serious film. That failure amuses me.

Well of course, for any film set in Roman times, nothing beats The Life Of Brian!

I can agree with Jayson that serious Hollywood historical movies happen to be even more funny than Life of Brian... at least when I watch them together with my wife or either Alexander, we are in stitches from both what we see and each other's comments...

Few films set in any time beat The Life Of Brian. Easily my favorite Python pic of the bunch, but also one of my favorite comedic films overall.

There isn't much funnier than a film that is trying far too strenuously (and to no avail) not to be funny.

I was just referring to the line where Cypher says that if he had to choose between the real world and the matrix, he'd choose the matrix. I was just trying to play off of that.

Also, I've talked to a lot of people that don't like Gladiator, so I'm not surprised to hear you guys have the same opinion. I can see where a lot of people dislike it.

That being said, I watch movies to be entertained. I watch the history channel to be educated.

Gladiator is historically flawed, but the story is compelling, the acting is top notch and the cinematography and production values are also very good.

Do you guys like Braveheart? It's one of my favorite movies of all time, but it also as historical errors. I'm interested to see what you guys think of that film. I'm not sure if it's part of our polling.

Braveheart is one of my favorite movies, too (I nominated it for BMoAT, and was heartbroken to see it getting so few votes). There's no historical movie without mistakes, but there are mistakes and mistakes.

Ugh. Keanu Reeves advancing. Double ugh.
It'll take a lot more than words and guns,
A whole lot more than riches and muscle.

The hands of the many must join as one.
And together we'll cross the river.
