I feel like early reviews are all usually glowing. Everyone coming down off the hype high, especially when seeing a movie in the theater.

Looks interesting, but as always, the story has been told, it's only a new slant that can try to make it interesting.
FWIW, Predator is one of my favorite films of all time. Long story not to be told today, but it was at a time in my life that things were great.

Not a new release, but I just watched Free Solo, a pretty amazing documentary about extreme rock climbing. Highly recommended, but if you don’t like heights it may be unwatchable. I had to stop and brace myself to continue more than once.

That movie was pretty intense. Even knowing the outcome I was still super nervous while watching it.

Prey is good. VERY good and I would go so far as to say the best since the very first one. I think "masterpiece' is a bit much and thrown about a little to causally. If you want that then watch Thirteen Lives on Prime... that was a masterpiece.

Is there a thread for upcoming conventions? This one has two of the stars of Prey and hopefully I will get to go but not sure yet. Also, the director of the IT mini-series (who also played Michael Myers in the closet scene from the first Halloween) is going to be there.

Two of my most anticipated films of the year (Nope, The Northman) by two very exciting directors (Peele, Eggers) turned out to be somewhat disappointing for me. It's interesting that both films were the 3rd film by each director. Has me even more interested in Ari Aster's 3rd film.

To take it a step further, Damien Chazzelle's 3rd film First Man was also a disappointment for me after his first two fantastic features Whiplash and La La Land.

I might be on to something here. I just thought of another disappointing 3rd effort by a director that has had a fantastic start to his career and that is Alex Garland's Men. I have yet to see it, but I know it has divided most people, including our very own Ricky. Garland burst on the scene with Ex Machina and his second showing Annihilation was a strong effort as well.

I just finally watched The Northman. I enjoyed it. It is my least favorite of his films, but that said I did still like it.

    Don't forget Blomkamp. District 9 > Elysium > Chappie.

I don't think I agree with NOPE being disappointing. I actually really, really enjoyed it. It's not Get Out, but it's definitely a step up over US.

All eyes on Ari Aster. That's his movie with Phoenix, right? Sounds like a rock solid collaboration.

You know how I feel about the infuriating Men.

I really enjoyed The Northman, but it didn't blow me away like I was hoping. I did like it much, much more than The Lighthouse, however. The Witch is still my favorite of his. It's so simple and spooky.

I know I've always been in the minority, but I hated District 9 and enjoyed Elysium. I refuse to see Chappie, though, because the trailers were infuriatingly annoying. I think I must've seen it a dozen times in the theater that year.
