Yes,Anakin was not the chosen one, it was Rey. She actually restores balance to the Force. A chosen one could not have turned over to the dark side. That doesn't mean Anakin turning to the light was meaningless, just like Ben wasn't. Basically, Qui-Gon was wrong, and if you rewatch Phantom Menace, you can see him basically forcing the Jedi Council to accept little Anakin as the one the prophecy spoke of. But he never really displayed any traits that would prove that, except the midichlorians thing. Rey, on the other hand, throughout the sequel trilogy shows that she is uniquely tuned to the Force and to me it closes the deal on her as the chosen one, when at the end she hears the voices of the Jedi that came before her. And no, she's not the last Jedi, the fact that the Force is a living thing amonst all creatures is true and anyone can be a Jedi or save the galaxy, like the boy with the broom at the end of Episode 8 or even Finn, but the point of the saga was to tell the story of one bloodline, the Skywalkers, and Rey adopting that last name at the end was both highly emotional (I knew what her answer would be as soon as the woman asked her, but I still was overcome with tears), but also thematically beautiful. Yes, she was Palpatine's granddaughter, but she rejected the path that was laid out to her and forged her own. In the queer community found family is often more meaningful than actual family, so this highly resonated with me personally. It's a great message to send as the saga ends. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, what matters is what's inside and that you do the right thing.
