I honestly believe that the animated Clone Wars and Rebels series is some of the best Star Wars has done. Which is why it's so exciting seeing these stories and characters continue on into live action!
Agreed, and this is coming from someone who wanted nothing to do with Clone Wars. By the 2nd season it definitely starts firing on all cylinders, and is truly some of the best modern day "Star Wars". For those who have no love for the way Disney has mishandled the franchise, give these animated shows a shot

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the animated series; It’s just a personal thing I think. Not due to a “cartoons are for kids” attitude, but graphic novels and animated movies and shows are just a medium I’ve never really been interested in.

With the written word, I can create worlds in my head; live action can have a realism and a beauty that I can relate to. But line drawing and animation, for some reason, I find more difficult to respond to. I can appreciate the craftsmanship of it, but the format’s lack of realism prevents me from being invested somehow. I never really got into anime for the same reason. I can’t really explain or justify it.

I’m not saying that anyone else shouldn’t watch or enjoy it; it just doesn’t appeal to me personally.

Nothing is repeated from the animated series, but there are novels set in the prequel era that flesh out the characters and that time much more, if that's easier to get into. I know Brian is a big fan of them and has read most of the books.

You can do some deep dives with the books and they are surprisingly written very well. A big fan of them for sure.

Is anyone even hyped for Andor? I've heard almost no buzz about it. Don't even understand why they're doing a show on him anyways. He wasn't an interesting character and I don't understand the point of this series even more than I didn't understand the point of Rogue One.

I can see the appeal of a Rogue One, events leading directly up to the OG trilogy. But that was definitely a story that was just fine as a single-serve, don't need a mini-extended universe about those characters. To your point he wasn't that interesting a character.

I’m very excited for Andor. As I’ve mentioned, Rogue One is my #3 Star Wars movie if all time. I loved those characters and that story. This show will show us the birth of the Rebellion. It won’t just be Andor’s story. If you’ve seen Rebels, this is set around the same time, and both series show how the Rebellion came to be. I’m very excited.

I guess I just don't see the point in seeing how the Rebellion came to be. I know how the rebellion came to be, because the Empire came to be so they rebelled against it. It's not as if we needed to see how the Rebellion came to begin to enjoy the original trilogy story arc. I haven't seen Rebels, but if that covers the beginning of the Rebellion than Andor seems even less unique.

I keep hoping for them to do something really fresh and exciting or quirky and off the beaten path, but nothing has grabbed my interest yet. Mandolorian Season 1 had some big hype, but Season 2 not as much and I heard the first season had diminishing returns too. I've lost interest the Empire/Rebellion, Jedi/Sith stuff...it's just the same stories over and over at this point. I'd rather see something like a mockumentary series akin to Formula 1: Drive to Survive about the podracing circuit or a Cheers like sitcom about running the Mos Eisley Cantina.

I guess its a personal preference kind of thing. I for one am digging this kind of material. Rogue One, was great in telling the tale of the Death Star plans, IMHO. So I secong, Mae's sentiments and want to delve into the bones of the rebellion. From the contents of your post I would say that you are not an avid SW fan which, is cool. You always have the option to switch streams anytime!! lol I thought he was a great character in Rogue One and want to see more. Ditto for the "Mandalorian". Both of those seasons were beyond excellent and have breathed new life into the franchise that the last 2 films in the saga may have deflated it a bit. Of course, I also have to disclose that I am a "Anything" SW kind of fan!! lol.

I used to be an avid Star Wars fan...I had almost the entire Kenner toy collection and read about half of the EU books (as of about 2005, anyways). The the thing is that Star Wars now is all about lore, and I don't care about lore. How they got the Death Star plans is irrelevant to me...they got them and we saw what they did with them in the very first film. Actually seeing it doesn't do anything for me. I've always said Rogue One should have been an Ocean's Eleven style heist movie instead of some weird Vietnam in Space movie; assembling a rag tag team of people with specialized skills, hyper planning for pinpoint precision when executed with twists and turns. Original trailers made it look like it was more of a heist film until all the reshoots.

Rogue One is my least favourite Star Wars movie. I not only found it redundant, but I thought the only character that wasn't paper thin was the robot. I will say Andor had more character than fat man with big gun and blind mystical kung-fu Asian, though. The action was boring to me because i didn't care about anyone or anything happening since I knew they succeeded. I know people would say killing all the characters is risk-taking, but that's actually the easiest thing to write since you don't have to fit them in anywhere later in the timeline. Mostly I dislike it because it could have been so much more if they were willing to take the risk. It wasn't a mainline film...they could have played jazz. I haven't watched anything Star Wars since Rogue One...I haven't even had the urge to rewatch the original trilogy. Rogue One (and The Force Awakens) disappointed me that much.

I hope they're taking more risks these days, but I'm not ready to forgive Disney yet. I may never forgive them. They say time heals all wounds but it's been 6 years and I still feel nothing for Star Wars now. I'm just trying to keep my finger on the pulse just in case some spark goes off in my brain. I can tell they're actually trying these days, even if I'm still not interested. I had hopes of a series about the comic misadventures of Bib Fortuna running Jabba's Empire, but I guess Boba Fett took care of that.

Rogue One was awesome.. Sorry Matt... hard to take your thoughts as serious man after your consistent Walking Dead and Negan love... which was HORRENDOUS and ruined that franchise. Mandalorian is the best Star Wars we have had since Return of the Jedi and you are missing out. Kenobi was AMAZING too. Sometimes we need to 'get over ourselves' and give things another chance. I mean that in a nice way.

NOW.... i will agree with you to a point. WE NEED TO MOVE AWAY from this constant story telling set in and around the original trilogy. It is time to explore the world. I would either go 2000+ years back? OR ahead... and even a decade or less would be fine. Just get out of where they are now.

They will start moving away from the original trilogy timeline soon with The Acolyte, but there are still storylines that need to be wrapped up, especially those set up in the animated shows.

According to Vanity Fair, it is!

If it's as good - doesn't even need to necessarily be better than - The Mandalorian, I'll give it a go. The new TV spot during NFL Sunday certainly made it look promising.

I like what I have seen so far from the live action stuff. Just like I loved Rouge One because it fleshed out what was going on right before Star Wars: A new hope, I don't think I will mind seeing
more details on what happened before. I am looking forward to it.

I thought Tales of the Jedi was fantastic and would love another season of this! The final episode especially was great, but it was just awesome to be back in that Clone Wars era.

So was Andor complete trash? I haven't watched it yet and haven't heard a peep about it from anyone here.

No, the complete opposite! It's so gripping. And it's doing what I find very fascinating, how the Rebellion got started, and also how politics and fascism work. Great writing and acting!

Odd that it's generating little to no buzz. Or maybe I'm just not paying attention.

Yeah I heard its amazing actually, I just haven't made time for it.

Too much content, not nearly enough time!

Andor is WOW. So far 9.5/10… gets better with each episode

Agree. In my opinion, the best of the Disney+ Star Wars series and it’s not that close

If it's as good as you guys say, the non-discussion of it here baffles me. Maybe things have to be terrible to get the attention. Squeaky wheel and all.
