I would say that it is possible that he repeats the speech actually in Episode VII at some point, but notice how there's no change from "my father has it" into "my father had it." (Plus the fact that the intonations are all the same exactly.) That whole voiceover clearly is just an affectation of the trailer to advertise the new film's relationship to the older ones. However, its structuring (i.e. moving the "YOU have it" line from before the other bit to after it) nonetheless may indeed imply someone else in the film has the power of the Force, unless it's simply meant to suggest that the audience will experience the power in watching this film.

This is a StarWars thread and I will give my impression.

I actually went to see the first one with my parents back in '77. It was all the rage then, for kids and adults and I am pretty sure it's because all the adults were on drugs.

When ESB came out we literally rushed to the theater to see in and were shocked at the ending.

RotJ came next and I remember being old enough to think the ewoks were kind of stupid but the effects were amazing. Even before they added the universe celebrating in a re release, I remember thinking every thing was fine now and there would be peace.

Then we hit the new century. And a new set of movies came out. At first, the idea that they would tell the beginning of the story was amazing to me, then I bought a ticket.

I think George took the greatest villain in the history of the universe and turned him into a whiny baby that can't get what he wants and decides to just take it. By the end, I wanted them to knife the boy an save everyone a bunch of trouble. It just got worse from there imo.

The only hope? I think Lucas could do a lot with three more movies. [B]Let someone else direct them[/B] and get Ford, Hammil and Fisher to come back as the old guard. A generation of peace and now the Sith are back.

Of course, cool a-list young actors to play the new Jedi's

I'm surprised they didn't alien him up in the vein of Darth Maul to make him look more menacing. I'm guessing he'll have several lines of dialogue. I don't necessarily like it, and I don't necessarily hate it ... stuck in the middle.

It's official: I don't want to know or hear anything else about the Star Wars film until I'm watching it on the big screen. I'm afraid knowing too much about details of the film will take away from the magic of the experience when it finally happens.
With that said, it's gonna be hard as hell to not come into this thread every time it gets bumped.

I think I figured out why the prequels never worked for me. They never stuck to that "a long time ago" aesthetic. Everything looked shiny and new and sleek. Episode 7 seems to be sticking with that old future look:

That actually never really bothered me about the prequels. In the prequels there was no Rebellion, there was no one scrounging for parts to make good ships to fight with, the army's where all freshly assembled and their equipment freshly built so it all still looked new. Plus they where in a extended period of peace up until the first movie. Where by the time you get to the original trilogy The Empire has been established for a "long" time at this point so the equipment has had time to decay and the rebellion is basically using whatever they can get their hands on to fight the Empire. So really it makes a lot of sense to me at least. Also I think if you look back the only stuff that really had that "used future" look in the original trilogy was the stuff the rebellion had as well as the Millennium Falcon.

I think some of the CGI took away from it, some enhanced it, particularly in the explosion department. I love the original movies, but the fact they they used models really stands out whenever something blows up. Personally I think the writing was the biggest problem with those movies, especially with Episode One.

The OT was very broad strokes, the Evil Empire Vs the Underdog Good Guys. It's a classic tale of good vs evil. The prequels were bogged down by Lucas' insistence of grounding everything.

Instead of big bad monotheistic Evil Empire we have several devious political machinations from several political parties all vying for power. Instead of a mystical, governing Force we have... midicholorian count.

Lucas did not, does not, and will never have the sleight of hand needed to pull a universe like that together cohesively.

Totally agree, though I think people confuse how they use medicholorians in the movies. The medicholorians aren't what make the force their presence is a indication that someone can use / tap into the force, but they aren't the force nor do they create it. Either way it was a pretty unnecessary term that was pretty much thrown out by the movies after Episode 1.

I think the biggest mistake Lucas made was doing prequels instead of sequels. There aren't really any stakes for the prequels, as you know how it's going to turn out. He should have told the sequels from the begining or go even further back and tell something from the time of The Old Republic like they've done in other media since the movies.

I love star wars, I grew up with it and watched all of the movies repeatedly for years! I truly hope that the new ones will be epic! The idea of having new Star wars movies to look forward to for the next decade is an intoxicating thought.......however because of my afore mentioned love I am also deeply cynical of the direction which Disney may take the franchise. I want to love them, I hope I love them, but I've been disappointed too many times! :O
