According to this review, Coal Black Horse is "a Civil War tale with McCarthy-like ambition." The reviewer relies heavily on the McCarthy comparison.

I am currently reading the book now, and I must say, I would LOVE the film rights to this. In fact, we might end up adapting this into a short film (the book is only 200+ pages) for a student competition this fall.

    "I aim to misbehave."
    -- Malcolm Reynolds

"I am a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar."
    -- Hoban Washburne

    "What does that make us?"
    "Big damn heroes, sir."
    "Ain't we just."
-- Malcolm Reynolds and Zoe Washburne

maybe the reviewer was a Mccarthy fan. It sounds interesting, Steve, I must read it.
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."
