I'm also surprised that Star Wars is leading. I guess they're both classic films, but I thought for sure Jaws would be leading. I feel like it's a universally loved film.

Star wars was a revolution to my imagination when it came to our shores, but Jaws ran wild in my imagination and I prayed for shore throughout. Jaws, for the terrifying lasting nightmare over Lucas' epic tale.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?
Interesting, a lot of people I know are always rewatching Jaws, and talking about it, quoting it... Way more than Star Wars. I know Star Wars has its fans, but just thought Jaws was more universally liked. Could just be the people I know, or the fact that I've never been into Star Wars so I never talk to anyone about it

I can't remember the last time someone talked to me about Jaws. Whereas I normally hear some kinda reference to Star Wars either by friends, colleagues, social media etc., You probably can't go a single week without hearing about SW.

I'm really surprised that people are surprised it is close.
Every time I see someone say one is obviously better then the other, I want to defend the other!

I think it's well known here that I am a huge SW fangirl. I love the Star Wars universe and I religiously watch all of the animated shows and all that extra nerdy lore stuff! Obviously, this incredible universe owes everything to that 1977 original film. And it's a great film, no doubt, and a classic. It was nominated for ten Oscars:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Supporting Actor
- Best Original Screenplay
- Best Costume Design
- Best Film Editing
- Best Original Score
- Best Art Direction
- Best Sound
- Best Visual Effects
It won the bottom six. It also received a Special Achievement Oscar.
But I would argue that Jaws is a better film. That's obviously a very subjective thing. But critically speaking, I imagine Jaws is admired more than Star Wars. And by that I mean comparing apples to apples, just the two films on their own merits, at the time they were made, not the multi-billion dollar franchise that SW grew into over many decades later.
Maybe this has to do with us being from Massachusetts? I feel like come summertime, lots of people are referencing Jaws. And yes Star Wars is obviously a highly talked about film, but are you guys talking about Star Wars the film itself, or the Star Wars universe? Obviously that will get a lot more talk because it's a whole universe of films and shows versus a single standalone film. I am however surprised that people don't think Jaws is a very rewatchable film, or that they're surprised that some people rewatch it all the time. I myself have seen it countless times.
