I saw your post asking if anyone had one for sale in the Rare King FB group and figured someone reached out directly. In any case I'm happy for you. What an odd release though... I guess their last SL was also a bit of a cluster, so I shouldn't be surprised.

    I find it interesting that you like FS' The Shining but found their Misery's illustrations tepid - because I found the FS' The Shining's illustrations e x t r e m e l y tepid indeed - you didn't?

(I also find it interesting that FS - many of whose publications I quite like (I even own a few!) - can't seem to design a decent King edition (these things are just limp)).

I've never even bought a Folio Society book because well, I buy Suntup, and Centipede, and Sub Press and there just isn't enough money for all that!

I guess I’ll have to review it. I love the cover of their Shining. And from what I remember the illustrations were more editorial. The illustrations in Misery carry no menace whatsoever. But I’ll look back and maybe appraise them less favorably.

I'm curious how many minutes it will take until someone offers one of the S/L books on ebay for $ 1500 to make a lot of money. I really want a copy to match my S/L Shining, but I will never pay such moon prices.

FS states no limitations except for their designated "limited editions," of which Misery is not one (although theoretically, there is a limitation, as they print what they print and wait before printing more).

    Their limited editions, FYI: https://www.foliosociety.com/usa/limited-edition

One of the most gorgeous of which (and one of my favorite productions of all time), and one you won't see on that page (because it sold out long ago) was their limited Alice In Wonderland:

"Editorial" is a great way to describe them; they have a clinical feel.

While I didn't love the FS The Shining cover, I'll at least say it shows that it was designed with input from someone who actually read the book and wasn't relying on the Kubrick film.

Sometimes, when I see a King special edition (such as both of FS' King offerings) that is "tepid" (good word, jeffingoff), I weep softly for the Centipede Press The Shining that never was.

Someone posted on the FS group that they talked with someone at Folio and they said around 2500 1st printings. Around the same as The Shining.

Is the S/L identical to the standard edition, but with a bookplate? Or does it have other differences as well?
