I think you need to put Lumet films on your list. Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon are musts.

It's a particular kind of stylized thriller/horror film made in the 1960s-80s in Italy and made popular by directors such as Dario Argento and Mario Bava. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage being one example here. Suspiria is probably the most famous example.

Although I will say that some do not agree that Suspiria is a giallo because of it's supernatural elements. It has all the pieces of a giallo but they tended to be gruesome masked killer murder mysteries. I love giallos and giallo-adjacents either way!

Just watched Black Sunday last night, so finally could vote on this group. Really liked it. Was amazed they actually filmed during the Super Bowl.

We watched Dog Day Afternoon last night, and don't hate me but I honestly didn't really care for it. I also had a lot of questions as to if it really happened that way so I looked up the real case afterwards.

    Spoiler:
Sonny cleverly shouts 'Attica!' at the cops to get the people riled up. Attica was of course the famous prison riot where inmates demanded better living conditions, held the prison hostage, and then saw 33 inmates killed after state police took back the prison. The crowd then conflated the two events, seeing his robbery as a way of 'sticking it to the man'.

Sonny and the FBI agent (forgot his name) made a silent pact to let Sal take the fall for the whole thing. Sal gets killed and takes the blame as the 'mastermind', the FBI agent avoids more bloodshed, and Sonny presumably gets a reduced sentence for facilitating it.

Thanks, I knew there must have been some reference I wasn't getting.
    Spoiler:
Also did Sonny really make a pact with the FBI? I thought he didn't? Did he in real life? When I looked it up I saw something saying that he would never have turned in his partner. So it just seemed odd to me that they were so eager to kill the other one, when they could have easily set it up where they could have appended both. I do wonder how it actually went down in real life with his partner and how he was killed though.
