Before I waste a nom, JUST asking but has anyone seen Looking for Mr. Goodbar? It's kind of hard to find, I don't think it's even been released on DVD yet.....

And that's 256, everyone! Thank you for the great participation, I think we came up with an amazingly representative list of 1970s movies!

If anyone's curious, here was my remaining list and it was pretty obscure movies that I doubt would've gotten a second:

    Paul Verhoeven

    Watch trailer:

    My remaining list:

I know most of the U.S. ones are not great movies, but they affected me positively in one way or another. The Asian ones are top notch. If you enjoy the particular genre, check them out.

When sentient ants attack! Phase IV (if you haven’t seen the hippy-dippy-trippy lost ending with a vision of mankind evolving in a Borg-like state with the ants, it’s on You Tube)

When giant ants attack! Joan Collins! Empire of the Ants

When tarantulas attack! William Shatner! Kingdom of the Spiders

When forest animals attack! Day of the Animals

Giant rodents attack! The Food of the Gods

Man turns into snake! Snake attack! Sssssss

Talking dolphins trained to attack! George C. Scott! The Day of the Dolphin

Love at First Bite (George Hamilton as a comedy vampire)

Nosferatu the Vampyre (Klaus Kinski as a mopey vampire)

Hardcore (George C. Scott tracks down his daughter who has been caught up in the porn industry)

The Legend of Boggy Creek (psuedo-documentary of a bigfoot-like creature near Fouke, Arkansas) -- probably the first movie I can recall seeing in the theater; everyone in my hometown went to watch this, b/c Fouke Arkansas was not that far away

The Town that Dreaded Sundown (based on true serial killer in Texarkana, Texas) -- similar to above; same guy that made Boggy Creek, and Texarkana was only 45 minutes from my hometown.

From Noon till Three (nice little Charles Bronson/Jill Ireland lighthearted western/romance)

    Coffy (Pam Grier black-action!)

The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams

    The Wiz

    Jodie Foster Disney: Candleshoe

Emmanuelle 2: The Joys of a Woman. More Sylvia Kristel doing what she does best

    Asian

    Akira Kurosawa’s Dodes'ka-den

Headliners of two great franchises! Zatoichi meets the One-Armed Swordsman

Bandits vs. Samurai Squadron (despite the cheesy title, this is a great samurai movie)

Female Yakuza Tale: Inquisition and Torture (bad-ass Yakuza chick out for revenge)

Sex and Fury (really bad-ass Yakuza chick out for revenge)

Samo Hung: aka “the fastest fat man alive.” The Magnificent Butcher (a classic of the comedy kung-fu genre)

Classic kung-fu action! 5 Fingers of Death (aka “King Boxer”)

More Venoms! Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms

Classic Jackie Chan action! Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow (the movie that pretty much put Chan on the map)

Brue Lee action! The Big Boss (released in the U.S. as “Fists of Fury”)

Bruce Lee action! Fist of Fury (released in the U.S. as “The Chinese Connection”)

Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris action! Way of the Dragon (released in the U.S. as “Return of the Dragon”)

That's a good question. Here you go see if I missed any, but this is the total I get.

    Dirty Harry
    The Outlaw Josey Wales
    Escape from Alxatraz
    Magnum Force
    Play Misty for me
    High Plains Drifter
    The Enforcer (?)
    Kelly's Heroes
    Two Mules for Sister Sara
    The Eiger Sanction
    Thunderfoot & Lightfoot
    Joe Kidd
    The Beguiled
    The Gauntlet
    Anywhich way but loose

That's 15 films if "The Enforcer" is correct. Honofrable mention and missing from the list that I can think of is: "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". He was a very busy man in the '70's for sure. And still "Star Wars" owned the decade. The only seriuos competition to SW would be "The Godfather", "The Exorcist" and "Jaws" IMHO. That's one pretty fucking serious decade for films!!! "Apocalypse Now" and "All the President's Men" probably deserve honorable Mention as well. Looking at that list it occurs to me that Man, that's a shitload of popcorn we ate in that decade!! lol

Edit: As, Divemaster pointed out, there also was "Joe Kidd" released in the '70's, making the actual total for the decade 14 films. Alas, it was not nominated. Man, he was rolling in the dough!! What was he getting at the time? Close to $1mil a movie? Maybe more for a few of them? That's some serious coin for those times and even now. I suppose the Spaghetti's weren't as big a payday, but still. Serious coin and a busy schedule for sure!!! The big question would be "what was the Grand total body count for all those films? lol lol You'll definitely need, "Still Servant" to research the answer to those questions!! lol lol

That's 10 films if "The Enforcer" is correct.
You forgot The Beguiled, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and Every Which Way but Loose.

(But I would forget EWWBL also, b/c any movie where an orangutan upstages Clint Eastwood is a movie best forgotten.)

Why wouldn't The Enforcer be correct? Clint Eastwood is front and center the whole way!

And you could have added Joe Kidd if anyone had bothered to nominate it.

    Play Misty for me
    High Plains Drifter
    The Enforcer (?)
    Kelly's Heroes
    Two Mules for Sister Sara
    The Eiger Sanction

That's 10 films if "The Enforcer" is correct.
You forgot The Beguiled, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and Every Which Way but Loose.

(But I would forget EWWBL also, b/c any movie where an orangutan upstages Clint Eastwood is a movie best forgotten.)

Why wouldn't The Enforcer be correct? Clint Eastwood is front and center the whole way!

And you could have added Joe Kidd if anyone had bothered to nominate it.
I just missed those. My eyes ain't what they used to be and that is one long list!! lol My eyes kinda got lost a bit at times even though I went through it three times!! I'll adjust the list accordingly. I wasn't quite positive, "The Enforcer" posted was the same one I was thinking of hence the question mark.

Edit I:Frik, I seriously considered seconding the "Godzilla" film myself, but I was still getting the hang of the seconding rules. I mean, what's a list of films in a sdecade that doesn't have a "Godzilla" flick of some sort, right? I believe at the time I had a choice and went with, "Mr Majestyk" and forgot to go back and do the famous radioactive lizard!! Alas, it's too late now. What a shame.

Edit II: FWIW, I think my favorites for the decade would be,1. Kelly's Heroes, 2. High Plains Drifter and 3. The Outlaw Josey Wales with the "Dirty Harry" films following closely behind in the order they came out. I have fond memories going to see the latest, Eastwood offering with my Grandfather who absolutely LOVED these films. lol We had a freaking ritual to watching these films, alternating ticket purchase and popcorn/Juicy Fruit snacks, McDonald's immediately following the film and a cup of coffee (Cream and Sugar!! lol) for his dog, "Cookie" who also got a plain burger when my, Grandmother camed to pick us up. McDonalds was a big deal for the oldest of 5 kids. We didn't eat out much in those days!! lol He also favored, Charles Bronson films, if anyone cares. I suggest you all list your top 3. Man, this decade just brings back a shitload of fond memories!!! lol
    28 in 23 (?)!!!!

    63 in '23!!!!!!!!!!

The Houston Astros cheated Major League Baseball from 2017-18!!!! Is that how we teach our kids to play the game now?????

I wonder how many movies Eastwood is staring in this tournament. Seemed like a LOT! (and he deserved it)
That's a good question. Here you go see if I missed any, but this is the total I get.

    Dirty Harry
    The Outlaw Josey Wales
    Escape from Alxatraz
    Magnum Force

That's 10 films if "The Enforcer" is correct. Looking at that list it occurs to me that Man, that's a shitload of popcorn we ate in that decade!! lol
Well, I can name a few you missed:

    Any Which Way but Loose
    The Gauntlet
    Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
    Wanted:

    'Salem's Lot Portfolio #606

    Fairy Tale UK S/L

Edit: As, Divemaster pointed out, there also was "Joe Kidd" released in the '70's, making the actual total for the decade 14 films. Alas, it was not nominated. Man, he was rolling in the dough!! What was he getting at the time? Close to $1mil a movie? Maybe more for a few of them? That's some serious coin for those times and even now. I suppose the Spaghetti's weren't as big a payday, but still. Serious coin and a busy schedule for sure!!! The big question would be "what was the Grand total body count for all those films? lol lol You'll definitely need, "Still Servant" to research the answer to those questions!! lol lol
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is a 60s movie. I double-checked early on. There was no way I would have let that go unnominated (and I won't when the 60s tournament rolls around.)
