Oof, this is tough. Split is one of them, but the other? I went with The Big Short, but can't justify that choice, really.

I voted for The Big Short as well. Aside from being very funny at times I loved how it broke down in simple terms how the housing bubble happened. The other vote went to 12 Years a Slave. I really liked Split but not enough to vote for it. Imitation Game was ok enough but it says a lot that I thought I hadn’t seen it and only realized I had when I saw the poster.

That was more or less my reasoning.

12 Years a Slave is the only movie I have ever seen in a theater where at the end dozens of people (including myself) were crying. The only other films that came close were Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler's List.

I think it’s only movie I’ve seen where I had a visceral reaction to it in the theater. I felt physically uncomfortable which was a good thing. I remember there was a group of teens talking loudly throughout the trailers and the first few minutes of the movie. They quickly quieted down and when it was over they left silently and looked stunned.

    bears were unimpressed by Split

I did not see any difference between the personalities; always one and the same guy pretending he was something or other. I think Sally Field or Sylvie Testud managed the same task so much better

Split was a good film but it definitely benefited from its connection to M. Night's larger universe.

As others here mentioned, 12YAS was one hell of a visceral experience in theaters. Ejiofor, Nyong'o, Fassbender were all great.
