I'm glad you mentioned Jupiter Ascending, especially after my mention of Cloud Atlas. Both films are directed by the Wachowskis and both were films that really divided people. In my opinion, Cloud Atlas is a superior film. What were your thoughts on that one?

I like both actually, but prefer JA. I like different and imaginative movies when filmmakers just go for it, I respect that.

I wanted to like JA. I really did. But I think my issue was it was how quickly Mila Kunis just accepted what was happening around her and to her character. I just could not buy that part. At least in The Matrix, Neo just did not accept what was happening to him and it took him a while to come to grips with what was happening and what his role was. At least that's my thought. I wanted to like JA. But I just could not get past that. There might have been other things, but I only saw it in the theater one time and that was it.

Thank you to everyone for another great job with the nominations, I believe, as usual, we have a very eclectic mix of great movies, and I am very eager to get voting!

I have the first Round 1 polls opening on Monday, July 27, so we have three weeks at our disposal to go over the list and see any movies we might want to catch up on that we haven't seen or watched a while ago and want a refresher.

The overview thread will be updated with the schedule soon. I'll also post the usual nomination stats here shortly, and Still Servant has a tough job ahead of him getting us the always fascinating actors breakdown

This is the part where I start thinking of all the films that I totally left off my very comprehensive list. Shame on me for totally forgetting about Mud.

That being said, I think we did a very good job of filling this field. There are quite a few smaller films that I really hope people try to watch before the tournament starts.

I was going to nominate Mud because of Jeff Nichols, but I thought some other films were more deserving. Can't believe I didn't think of The Help until it was too late. I'm quite surprised no one nominated The Help considering how loved that movie is.

To anyone new to the process, or just as a reminder, I've alphabetized and randomized the list using https://www.random.org/lists/ to create the 32 groups of 10 titles for the first round (top six will move on and the bottom four will be eliminated). Had to randomize the list more than 20 times before I had groups with no more than one Marvel movie in them! But looking over the groups, I can tell you it will be very difficult casting those votes... What do you leave out? Get ready for some tough decisions.

Welp, I started out with a list of 93 movies and got 59 of them at least nominated. Here's the rest of my list. Lots of sequels and a couple of comedies that probably wouldn't make it very far. I'm pretty happy with the ones that did get in.

    Iron Man 2
    Grown Ups
    Kick-Ass
    Captain America: The First Avenger
    Thor
    The Change Up
    Real Steel
    In Time
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2
    Pacific Rim
    Grown Ups 2
    The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
    Blended
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
A Million Ways to Die in the West
    Ant-Man
    The Intern
    Ted 2
    Daddy's Home
    Pitch Perfect 2
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
    Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
    Pitch Perfect 3
    Cars 3
    The Upside
    Before I Fall
    Ant-Man and The Wasp
    Incredibles 2
    Deadpool 2
    Ralph Breaks the Internet
    Spiderman Far from Home
    IT Chapter 2
    Happy Death Day 2U
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

Here are the ones I still had on my list, most of these wouldn't have gotten seconds I imagine or go past the first round:

    Bunch of movies

So I like weird movies, sue me :) I also like superhero movies and raunchy comedies, go figure!

I had both Mud and Moonrise Kingdom on my lists, just never got to them.
It's just weird because Take Shelter and Midnight Special, two other Nichols films, were nominated. Loving also didn't get nominated but could have. I could make the argument that Mud is his best film.
