Can not vote but matching numbers is nice because I know they were all cared for by single individuals in general.

Slightly, and only with books in a series (The Passage trilogy, for example). And even then it's just a nice-to-have, not a requirement. Otherwise, I don't care whether I have #1 or #800.

I get every number tattooed on my back. So I try to get the same number because tattoos are expensive.

Voted slightly. If the options would have been Care-Not care, I'd have voted not care.

Voted moderately, because it depends. I'd want to match if possible for any series (e.g. Dark Tower, Doubleday editions, any trilogy, etc.). I like having matching numbered Suntup Editions, but only because I've gone this far. If it wasn't set up that way, it wouldn't really matter to me except for collections such as the H.G. Wells set.

Put moderately. Somewhere between moderately and slightly really.

Tried to match my number/Letter for Gwendy's button box with my other CD editions, the limitation was too low on Gwendy to match my CD number, and someone else had my Letter (got the double version of it instead). In the end, it doesn't bother me they don't match, but glad my DT series is a match.

I care A LOT. Especially for any multiple book set, it's pretty much a must have. For non-sets it's still important and I try to get matching numbers across all books I get from a publisher. Sometimes it can't happen and I totally understand but I still don't like it.

I generally revel in my bibliophilia and the joy it brings me but this is one part of it that I really, really wish I could change

For a set of books (DT, DD set from CD), I think it's extremely important. For misc. titles and authors, who cares.

    Interesting comments all.

I have a set of about 20 SK S/Ls with the same number.

There are several I would like to add to that group....From a Buick 8, Joyland, Cycle of the Werewolf to name a few.

Would I pay a small premium for them? Probably. Would I pay 50% over the going rate? Probably not.

To illustrate my point...I have allowed three to slip by (Insomnia, CotW, and the UK W&G) because they were overpriced.

Good way to economize. Not sure what your lettered strategy is.....Double lettered FI. Very few publishers do it that way. Maybe HH...

This is an interesting topic. I have all the DD books so far from CD umatched and all the Stephen King numbered titles from PS also unmatched. Never attempted to match either set. Where it actually did benefit me was when Paul released Misery. I had already purchased EOTD portfolio so got the chance to match Misery automatically which was superb! (but sheer good fortune)
I don’t have any Dark Tower S/Ls (only trades) so I don’t need to worry about those as yet. When I do get them (I plan to eventually) matching numbers won’t bother me in a DT set either.
    Enjoying everyone’s responses though

I actually matched my CD DD number with my PS number. Though I only have Tommyknockers, The Stand, and Dead Zone.

I only care when it comes to a series or set. Other than that, not a big deal. Except Suntup, I want those to continue to all match since I started at the start.

I know this has been bandied about in other threads and forums but I am very curious how many people have been along since the very first books. My guess is that TDT is disproportionately represented for very obvious reasons...

I've got my sunup number dialed in from the beginning. I do like my Subpress AGOT set - all same number (plus the MM books as well) - and then I've been able to get all subsequent books regarding GRRM w same number (like books of magic, swords, etc) - so that is a rather large set of the same number...doubt there are many of those around

I screwed up my Suntup number by not buying THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (which I now regret), and then there was a mix up with some paperweights which further confused my number, but none of that bothers me. At least my EOTD portfolio and my numbered MISERY numbers match, and that's good enough for me. For the rest of them, I just use the old ink eraser and change the numbers to whatever I want.

I think the only matching letters/numbers I have are my King PS Publishing Anniversary Editions. I got low numbers and letters and just continued it. Otherwise I don't give a damn. I have lots of letter "P" books from CD, but I don't care about matching letters, only that they are single letters.

Voted I don't care at all. I don't think I have anything matching. If Suntup ever produced another King limited I would ask to match Misery but otherwise, eh. Too much headache.
