Default Best Films of This Decade (2020s)

Just like the previous decade, I thought with us being halfway through the first year of the 2020s, it's about that time to start thinking of what the best movies of the year have been and what else we are looking forward to. Of course, the start of this decade has been, to say the least, rocky. I'm sure we all have seen just a small percentage of what we typically would have at this point. But even so, what are some of your favorite movies to come out this year?

For the record, here are the previous decade discussions:
    1. The 1920s
    2. The 1930s
    3. The 1940s
    4. The 1950s
    5. The 1960s
    6. The 1970s
    7. The 1980s
    8. The 1990s
    9. The 2000s
    10. The 2010s

(As well as an All-Time thread.)

For my part, in alphabetical order, I would single out the following 2020 releases, of which there have been very few so far. Not sure how many will remain on my list by the end of the year but I'm looking forward to some good movies hopefully during this second half.
    • Birds of Prey
    • Emma
    • Gretel & Hansel
    • Shirley
    • The Invisible Man
    • The Half of It

Some more good 2020 releases: https://www.indiewire.com/gallery/be...e-2021-oscars/

Note that quite a few on this list are actually 2019 releases, technically.

So far for 2020 Invisible Man and Bad Boys have been the movies I have liked... So many movies have been moved around. Our theatres in Canada are wide open again July 3rd. I am SO pumped to add a few movies to the list.

    No doubt about that.

Although, I would have been pissed if I paid to see Da 5 Bloods in theaters.

Not sure if you saw this, but the Academy changed the eligibility for 2021 to include films that premiere on streaming and VOD.

I didn't see that either. Interesting.

My favorite of the year is a tie between Fantasy Island and the new Grudge movie.

I really want to see The Invisible Man and Emma, but I'm waiting for them to come out to rent. I haven't checked in forever so maybe the price has already come down. I also really want to see Shirley, just haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I'm pretty sure I've been to the theater back in Jan, probably to see Little Women.

The last time I went to the theater was for 1917 in...February.

Is this the start of our movie theater withdrawal support group?

I wanted to rent Emma on Xbox but it was 15 bucks. I won't pay the same for as the theater without a theater experience, I surely won't pay more.

Yeah, I havent checked the prices recently so they might be normal rent prices now, but initially when everything went down you had to pay the full theater price just to rent the film. I also refuse to pay that much to watch it at home. I get why they did it, but I can wait.

I think it's about time we start posting our Best of 2020 lists, isn't it? I'm still looking to watch a bunch of 2020 releases, and even some 2019 releases! So it might be a while.

There are so many amazing 2020 films, you got to catch up.

I think this might be a little early since we just put together our favorite films of 2020, but I suppose as 2021 goes along this thread will serve a purpose.

I can tell you right now that Judas and the Black Messiah is a masterpiece.

The 2020 film I'm dying to watch is Another Round, starring the homie Mikkelsen. That one looks right up my alley. It's on Prime rn, just have to make time for it.
