Lethal Fireflies of Brazil is the correct answer.

Creepshow is fun and a favourite, but if I have to objective, it's not a best anything.

I would love for Clue to move on. But sadly it seems like people here haven't seen it. It's such a fun movie, that I thought everyone had seen back in the 80s.

Grave of the Fireflies is my favorite film of the entire decade of the 1980s, it's a masterpiece, and utterly tragic and devastating, but it's also a magical and beautiful film speaking to themes of innocence, pride, coldheartedness. It's streaming on Hulu, so I would suggest watching it but be prepared to cry. I'm surprised it's not more popular and garnering more votes, I saw it around 1999 and it was already a well-known film at that point. First time watching it I was completely in tears and so depressed afterwards, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. I have seen it a number of times since and it never fails to emotionally wound me, even when I know all the sad and painful things that will happen. Just the first notes of the main theme is enough to nearly bring me to tears. It's such a powerful film. It should not be eliminated in the second round by average movies like Lethal Weapon and Creepshow, and even The Fly, which I adore. It's a film that should be going very far in this tournament, but it seems that won't be happening, a shame. Again, it's streaming on Hulu now, so if you've never seen it or never even heard of it, now is the time. It's truly a film anyone who considers themselves a fan of film should see. Whether it will have the same effect on you as me, I don't know, but I can't see anyone not coming away appreciating this film.

All I will say is that it is the saddest film I have ever seen and that everyone I know that has seen it, loves it. It definitely gets high marks from me.

Sorry guys, but I'm not sold. First, I don't go to the movies to get sad. I wanna get sad all I gotta do is turn on the news. Second, I really care about two kids at the end of WWII? Anyone still remember December 7th? That's the problem with the "Millenial generation", everyone is worried to death about everyone's feelings. Well, what you gonna do when that group comes along that's feeling froggy and wants your lilly pad? The killer instinct is going away. Eat or be eaten. If you don't take it, nobody is giving it to you, pal. yeah, save it I know I'm a dinosaur and there is no place for me in the "New America". Yada yada.

    Spoiler:
Sorry, that one kinda took a dark turn outta nowhere!!! lol Getting cranky in my old age!!! LOL Wait until "Still Servant" see's this!!!! He's gonna get a boner!!! LOL

Anyway, I'm glad you all love and enjoy the film. I'm gonna pass though, thank you. I don't generally enjoy Japanese animation. Just a matter of taste is all. It's not for me. Best of luck though.

I just watched Grave of the Fireflies for the first time a few weeks ago. And I truly would consider it an amazing film. I dont think it should be written off because it's animated. Yes, it's a heartbreaking story. And I wanted to bawl my eyes out by the end. But isn't that a sign of a powerful film? And this isn't a dig at other films that are nominated because you all know I also love a really good cheesy film that is purely for entertaining. Most of the films from the 80s that I love are those types of films. But films can also go beyond entertainment and tell great stories as well. I would definitely recommend that film to any film lover.

@Bill - my friend I can't tell if you're trolling or not, but it's sad that you can't celebrate one of the most beautiful, moving films ever made. I implore you to watch it if you haven't already. Guarantee you'll change your tune after experiencing the profound masterpiece that is Grave of the Fireflies.

Trolling? Nice thanks dude. God forbid anyone disagree or not go with your advice with you cretins.

And Mae, every drama is not a tear jerker which is what you described. So, NO I don't go to a film to have a cry. Now, as long as you are all bemoaning the "power" of this film and how emotional it is, have any of you seen "Pride of the Yankees"? No, I doubt it, but it is also an excellent and emotional film but is likely not your cup of tea. That's cool, but you don't have me ganging up on you guys and bemoaning the fact that you didn't watch it do you? You guys are all the "Next Generation" right with tolerance for everyone and all that? Yeah, tolerance for everyone that agrees with you. I'm out.
