Shamefully, that's one of my blindspots. I know it's a popular film, even though critically it failed (44% on Rotten Tomatoes), I just never had a chance to see it for some reason all these years. Looks like it's not streaming anywhere either, otherwise I'd love to catch up.

It is one of Newman's best performances and I have nearly seconded it several times but then I think of how many other great Lumet films there are and would The Verdict even crack his top five? I'm still debating that one...but I will SECOND The King of Comedy and after that, I'm going after Once Upon a time in America but must wait....

I agree with you. Lumet had an amazing career and I don't think I would put The Verdict in his top 5 either. That being said, this is an '80s tournament. If you're telling me Lumet made a better film in the '80s I want to hear it. Also, I refuse to believe that there are 256 better films made in the decade than The Verdict. I would be willing to bet it's on every one of those lists Mae posts.

What about Prince of the City?

I haven't seen that one yet, but I find it hard to believe it's better than The Verdict. Again, my guess is that the Verdict appears on more lists of the best films of the '80s than Prince of the City.

Well, I don't have a horse in this race as I have seen (or heard of) neither movie, but based on the 9 lists Mae provided The Verdict appeared on 0, and Prince of the City appeared on 1 (The 20 Best 80's movies that time forgot).

Shocked by that. I guess it's offically an underrated film I guess. The Verdict has a higher rating on IMDB at least.

Hope you enjoy it! I do wish justwatch would list every streaming site. I don't think they do Tubi or Pluto, and I always find good stuff on those as well. Crackle is one that I always forget about, but I just scrolled through and they've got some good stuff on there.

Also, my life has been crazy lately, so apologies for not being able to stay on top of the nominations and seconds with the Google Sheet. I can only really update it when I get home at night. I have seen a lot of people nominating fims that are already in. I certainly have no problem updating the sheet, but the idea was for it to be something that everyone can update and stay on top of. It will make things a lot easier instead of having to wait for Mae to update the first post or me to update the Google Sheet.

St. Elmo's Fire is like peak '80s, loved it. Ally Sheedy and Demi Moore were so young and adorable. I don't know how I've never seen it.
