1974 CARRIE - ORIGINAL FIRST DRAFT SCREENPLAY of STEPHEN KING’S FIRST BOOK Rare
Is this really such a rare, valuable item as described? It does seem cool that the script may have been screenplay writer Larry Cohen's own copy. Other thoughts on value of this item?
And they misspelled King's name on the front...
Author of The Road to the Dark Tower, Stephen King: A Complete Exploration of His Work, Life, and Influences and The Dark Tower Companion. Co-editor with Stephen King of the anthology Flight or Fright.
If anyone is looking for this Joyland slipcase (the one for the paperback from CD), I found some here for sale. You have to get it with the book though as they won't sell the case separately.
I've been surprised by what some of these Cavalier's in tip-top shape have been selling for recently on eBay. I think $100 for this particular issue is too high but have recently seen issues sell for $70 or so in similar condition. And I don't think that is unreasonable. There are many copies out there in lesser condition but the premium collector's grade copies are much harder to find.
In the early days of eBay (back in the 90's) I felt like I had the adult magazine section pretty much all to myself when it came to Stephen King appearances. I was buying most issues for $2 to $3 each as there was no mention of King in the listing. Especially the "Swithen" Cavalier could be had for pretty cheap. Now there is a lot of competition as collectors have gotten wiser. I hardly see any of the Cavaliers with King in them go for less than $30 even in poor condition.
I paid an average of about $35 for each of my Cavaliers back in 2010 and 2011. All were in very collectible condition. I'm also amazed at the current pricing.

So now isn't the best time to start ramping up a Cavalier collection. Something I've been wanting to do but never got around to focusing on it... I wonder if prices will continue to rise.
Heh... i'd love to buy some of these for $25-$35. Got one some time ago and since no luck

I came across this listing the other day. I'm guessing the price was a typo and not really what the seller was asking for the book... but funny to look at.

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
