yeah, I'd rather watch the Departed than Goodfellas. And Snatch is a good call too, it's an awesome movie you wouldn't think about as a mob movie.

"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."

I have those 3 also but they aren't as good as the others I listed.

The Godfather 1 and 2 are pretty much the quintessential mob movies. They're the yardstick for me. And I don't split them up as seperate because the book covers material from both films. And for those of you that haven't read the Godfather I highly recommend it. Its a great read.
All of the movies mentioned are damn fine flicks...hell...I even liked Mobsters to a certain extent I think I just like mob flicks.
I really love Casino, too, John!
Don't really think of Scarface as a mob movie, tho.
Buddy, you think you look strong? You’re wearing a cape.
At the back of the Goodfellas DVD case, there's a quote which reads :
"The best mob movie ever." -Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN TIMES
I wholeheartedly agree Roger!
Made was pretty funny.
Though not a movie, I think Sopranos needs a mention in here.
Scarface/American Gangster aren't mob movies, in my opinions. Much more about drug dealing than anything else.

I absolutely love Goodfellas. Great movie.
I've never seen any of the Godfather series though, so I can't say for sure that it is the best. ::runs and hides::
I am Daenerys Stormborn and I will take what is mine. With fire and blood.
Don't hide Erin, it was years before I sat down and watched The Godfather series.
Coming from an Italian family, that's unheard of. It's practically a rite of passage to watch those films. It's like baptism, first communion, watch the Godfather movies.
Growing up, my dad always tried to sit me down and watch them, but I just didn't have the attention span. It wasn't until I got out of college that I really sat down and could honestly appreciate the films.
Also, I would like to add Lucky Number Slevin to my list. At first glance, it shouldn't belong anywhere near some of these other films, but I was pleasantly surprised after watching it.
For a modern day mob flick, I think it's pretty good. The movie tries a little too hard to be slick, but it's still worth a viewing if you are a fan of mob movies.
I still have yet to see all of Goodfellas. I borrowed it off of a friend and slapped it in. Didn't know half of the movie was on one side of disc and vice versa, I assumed it was standard and widescreen. Sure enough I watched the second half of the movie but not the first half.

I don't think I've ever met anyone who hasn't seen the Godfather trilogy.....
Erin, go to the video store TONIGHT!

Let's see, I have a package here for a Mr. The Greatest Mob Movie Ever Made?
If someone could please sign for this, I'll be on my way.

Ah man. I don't know if the Departed was so hyped up or what, but I wasn't that impressed with it. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I can't see myself watching it again.
Does Suicide Kings count as a mob movie? cause i loved that one. pretty much anything with christopher walken.
Can I pick a second fav? If so, does Monsters Inc. count? I mean there is an "organization" involved.
If that's the case then I'm adding Monster Squad.
It has nothing to do with mobsters. but mobsters does sound very similar to monsters. and they are kind of a gang. except they're evil monsters. and a kid kicks the wolfman in the nards. so....
I remember that movie!
I've been trying to remember the name of it though....
thanks

There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.
so sad.
I like true romance too. I myself have personal conversations with The King.
