What's the greatest mob movie ever made.
What's the greatest mob movie ever made.
The Godfather Trilogy... in particular, I and II
Buddy, you think you look strong? You’re wearing a cape.
I intended to put a poll with this, but oh well.
The Godfather II
My top 3, in order...
Godfather 2
Goodfellas
Godfather 1
ps. Godfather 3 was one of the worst movies ever, mob or otherwise
"As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster."
"leave the gun... take the cannolis"
Buddy, you think you look strong? You’re wearing a cape.
"You just keep stirring that sauce Karen!"
It is a very close tie between the Godfather series and Goodfellas. I love them both.
On the Waterfront is pretty awesome too.
There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.
nice Chris! On the Waterfront is an awesome movie!
It has a heavily quoted line in it that the average person, when they hear it, know it, but don't know it is from On the Waterfront:
"You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am."
There's a nice homage to it in Raging Bull as well. There's also a scene in Hellboy where he is on the roof with a kid and some pigeons that is an homage to On the Waterfront as well. It was a very influential movie.

Donnie Brasco
There are other worlds than these.
"You brought your bitch to the Waffle Hut?"
"(859): You were wearing a sombrero. And a crown. And told me to use the nerf gun to protect your room from the cat. You don't have a cat."
~ texts from last night
great scene.
well, i love godfather 1 and 2, and Goodfellas is amazing. But just to be different I'm gonna say A Bronx Tale. Different perspective on the whole thing, and Chaz Palmenteri (sp?) is fricken excellent. Great lesson about the working man and the made man.
I just can't believe that Casino hasn't been mentioned in here. I love that movie.
and if anyone says Mobsters, they're getting shot.
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."

sorry i dont know if you would call it a mob movie but
THE UNTOUCHABLES
The Godfather.
If I had to chose a film besides The Godfather, I would go with Tamez and say Donnie Brasco. I just love everything about that movie.
Speaking of mob movies, I just bought the Ultimate Gangsters Collection. It comes with American Gangster, Casino, Scarface and Carlito's Way.
American Gangster could have been better. Casino is top 5 to me. Scarface is overrated, but still cool. Carlito's Way is underrated.
Other great mob movies:
A Bronx Tale
Untouchables
Mean Streets
Bugsy
Goodfellas (Top 5)
The Departed (more of a cops and robbers, but I consider it mob)
Once Upon A Time In America
The Road To Perdition
Snatch (I'm considering it mob)
This is my favorite genre if you couldn't tell.
if The Departed is considered a mob movie, it's number 1. That movie is one of the best movies ever, regardless of genre.

I think Mobsters is the best mob movie ever.

i'd def say Departed is a mob movie. better than Goodfellas though? i'm not prepared to make that statement. it was good, but Goodfellas was great. i don't see watching Departed againa and again, but Goodfellas, well, that I can watch anytime.
also, still servant, good call on snatch. i hadn't thought of that, but it's totally in the genre with the whole cousin avi storyline. for that matter, reservoir dogs is in bc laurence tierney and chris penn were part of an organized crime family. maybe not "mafia movies" but "mob movies" is a distinction
I had to do it.
For real though, these are ones I own and are my favs:
Godfather 1 & 2
Goodfellas
Carlito's Way
Departed
Gangs of NY
