Default Lisey’s Story miniseries from Apple

Josh Boone To Bring Stephen King’s ‘Lisey’s Story’ To Big Screen

You would never think that Josh Boone has made only one film, the guy is already in high demand! Not only is currently filming the highly anticipated adaptation of John Green’s THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, he announced today that his next project will be an adaptation of Stephen King’s LISEY’S STORY.

Not only did King appear in Boone’s directorial debut STUCK IN LOVE, but Boone also revealed a very interesting backstory to how he become known to the writer:

“I wasn’t allowed to read Stephen King. I had to rip the covers off of Christian books and glue them to Stephen King books, so that I could read them. I remember reading The Stand under my bed when I was 12, and I hid the book in the box springs under my bed, and my mom found it and burned it in the fireplace. I wrote him a letter when I was 12, just to tell him how much I loved his books and how much I wanted to be a writer when I grew up and that he was my idol. I sent him a couple books, hoping that he’d sign them. I came home from school one day and my dad said, “There’s a box here from Stephen King.” He had written me this beautiful letter in the front covers of each of the books. My parents were just so moved by the generosity, that he was willing to take the time to do that, that they lifted the Stephen King ban. “

Josh Boone will start adapting the project after filming finishes for THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and Isaac Klausner, who are producers for TFIOS, will also be producing LISEY’S STORY.

I actually just watched Stuck in Love. A great movie, I have to say, but then again I'm a sucker for movies like that

It was a great movie but also lots of explicit King book porn (including limited editions). And King doesn't actually appear in the film, it's only his voice.

This story is a rare occasion of the movie, perhaps, being better than the book IMHO. I have always really hated the book to a large degree, but it may work as a film. Especially by such a true fan.

Love it. It's in my top 3 of his books.
A movie version is pretty much un-filmable and I don't think it will get made either way.

Agreed. I struggled mightily to get through this book and can't imagine I would like it any better as a movie.

I am also not a big fan of LISEY'S STORY (that is a humungous understatement, but I'm trying to be polite). That's one movie I might never see.

I think the book could be adapted the same way Dolores Claiborne was -- reinvent it but remain true to its feel and intent. I could even imagine a version that downplays or eliminates the supernatural aspects that would still be successful.

bears absolutely abhor LS, but believe it could make a nice movie. Not, however, if the supernatural aspect is "downplayed or eliminated" - the rest is bland, boring, and has been done before (and better) by countless authors

I've only read DC one time (didn't like it much) and I've only seen parts of the movie but I always assumed that the movie followed the book pretty closely. Reading about them both on Wiki, it looks like I assumed wrong.

Agreed. Once you take out the supernatural elements, there isn't much left. I still wouldn't want to see it though.

I think it could make quite an interesting character study of the wife surviving the famous author husband's death and dealing with the crazies who want a piece of him.

    http://uproxx.com/tv/stephen-king-li...ry-adaptation/
It’s good to be King. In 2017 alone, four of Stephen King‘s works — The Dark Tower, It, The Mist, and Mr. Mercedes — have been turned into movies or television shows. He’s one of the most adaptable authors of all-time, so much so that it’s hard to find a novel or short story of his that hasn’t made the page-to-screen transition. But there is one that King would like to see.

“Oh, man. Lisey’s Story, I guess. Lisey’s Story is my favorite of the books and I would love to see that done, especially now that there’s a kind of openness on the streaming services on television and even the cable networks,” King told Variety. “There’s more freedom to do stuff now and when you do a movie from a book, there’s this thing that I call the sitting on a suitcase syndrome,” he said, referring to attempts stuff too much of one thing (like clothes or plot) into another thing (like a suitcase or a two-hour movie). But, King continued, “as a television show you have 10 hours, there’s always the possibility of doing something like The Handmaid’s Tale, which is extraordinary.”

Published in 2006, Lisey’s Story follows Lisey as she confronts the same demons that haunted her deceased husband of 25 years in a mysterious place known as “Boo’ya Moon.” Maybe that’s why the novel hasn’t been made into a movie or series: it’s hard to take “Boo’ya Moon” seriously.

Default Lisey’s Story miniseries from Apple

    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...-story-1200281

Following a multiple outlet bidding war, the tech giant has handed out an eight-episode, straight-to-series order for an adaptation of Stephen King's 2006 horror-romance best-seller Lisey's Story. Oscar winner Julianne Moore will star in the series, with King — in a rare move — writing all eight episodes of the drama, which is being produced by J.J. Abrams and his Warner Bros. TV-based Bad Robot Productions.

King doing the screenplay is what has me concerned. He doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to adapting his work.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record Mike Flanagan could probably do it justice.

Different stokes for different folks, but some of the adaptations with scripts by King has been pretty good. Not all, but some. Since this is a very personal story for King, I'm sure he will do his best here

I'm with you. It's funny that the guy who wrote the book is the one we're worried about adapting his own work.

Lisey's Story was one of the first King books I read (after Pet Sematary, Cujo, Misery, Thinner, and some others) and I remember not disliking it, but it's not one of my favorites. Interested to see what they do with it, though. I really like Julianne Moore. Plus, I have more faith in it as a TV series than a movie, so at least they're giving the story some room to breathe.
