Has anybody been watching CNN? They have a great series called The Movies. They started with the 80s and just did the 90s. They were both great.

Okay, so the first post has been updated with the schedule for the 2000s tournament. Round 1 is set to begin in a week, on July 29th. This gives us some time to hopefully catch up with some of the nominations if need be and for me to also gather all the materials needed (trailers, posters) and prepare the posting templates. I've randomized our list of 256 entries using Random.org ten times as usual.

The schedule can shift, especially if any tiebreakers force us to push some polls but I intend to stick to the schedule as much as possible, like I did last time, even when that pesky real life reared its ugly head. The final showdown this time is thus scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving here in the US and it couldn't be more fitting. I want to thank everyone for their participation in this endeavor!

No, I haven't heard of it. I'm going to go look it up though, hopefully they have it on on demand. I've loved the decade series they've done in the past.

I can't wait for the voting to begin. It's a good group of films. There seems to be more mainstream films than I was expecting. I enjoy many of them.

My hope is that the folks that spent much of their time in the 2000s watching blockbusters will find more than a few new films to add to their watch list.

I watched The Movies on CNN. They did the 2000s to today.

We did a pretty good job. They even had the My Little Pony movie on there. Apparently, the craft services guy's daughter watched the first five minutes of it an liked it so they had to include it.

Sadly, it's only available to stream with a Starz subscription and I no longer have Starz

We are off to a great start with our second part of The Great Movie Tournament! For the 1990s we had around 25-30 votes per poll so I truly hope we can hold to that level of participation! Thanks to everyone taking part and I hope you have fun!

    My findings are complete!

Click the third tab on the bottom to view a list of Actors in the Tournament and their films.

Films from the 2000s are in bold.

It was a lot of work, but it's really informative. I built it off of the list from the 90s, so you can see certain actors who were big in the 90s, but faded in the 2000s. There were certainly a number of actors that held strong and it's cool to see how many careers really took off in the 2000s.

    Some highlighted findings:

Christian Bale is the clear winner of the 2000s. After not placing one film in our 90s tournament, Bale nabbed a staggering 9 films in the 2000s.

Woah. Keanu Reeves has seen his career reignite with the John Wick films, but after placing 6 films in the 90s tournament, Reeves was left out in the cold with zero this time around.

God damn I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman. After placing 6 films in our 90s tournament, Hoffman stayed consistent with another 6 in the 2000s.

Clooney was second to Bale with 8 films.

Naomi Watts led all the ladies with 6.

Brian Cox was the character actor of choice in the 2000s, appearing in 7 of the films in our tournament.

The first four polls of the 2000s tournament closed and were moved to the general Great Movie Tournament archive sub-forum: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...vie-Tournament

They can still be commented on if you wish but just moved out of the main forum to keep things as tidy as possible. All polls once closed will be moved there.

I don't want to look ahead, but I've been thinking a lot about the next tournament and I think we might have to entertain the idea of increasing the number of films in the tournament.

Within the last 10 years, we've seen an explosion in the amount of films released per year. I'm also worried about the comic book films. Outside of having a separate tournament just for comic book movies, I don't think there's anything else we can do. I could see a scenario where close to 40 superhero films make it into the tournament.

These tournaments are dominated by mainstream films and this decade had tons of superhero films.

That's very valid, and I think worth talking about. I'm hesitant to increase the amount of films, unless we go to 320, two extra titles per group in Round 1 where still the top six move on and bottom four are eliminated. So that the time the tournament runs doesn't increase. However, is it worth the extra 64 nominees if they're just wiped off in the first round anyway? Why not try and make each nomination (and seconding) count instead?

You may be pleasantly surprised. I realize that "comic book" movies is more then just the Marvel and DC movies, but they are the bulk of the popular ones, that I suspect you are worried about. If you look at the movies in for the 2000's there are 3/6 DC movies, and 3/19 Marvel movies*. Granted most of the MCU movies are in 2010's and those are generally the best of the marvel movies.

    *based on list provided by:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...d_on_DC_Comics
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._Marvel_Comics

There will be 34 Marvel movies in the 2010's and 10 DC.

So far it has seemed like a theme to only nominate one movie from a series (the LOTR and 2 batman movies are notable exceptions). Maybe that will continue.

Yeah, it could a lot, maybe 15-25 is my prediction.
